1 amp or 2
Please advie me on what I should do.
I am thinkin' of upgrading the stock music in my car to something better. I wanna put 6x9's to replace all the speakers in the car (two front doors and the 2 behind the seats in the back) and I wanna add a 12" sub.
Should I get 1 amp to push the 6x9's and 1 to push the sub or should I just get 1 to push everything?
Please advise on what I should do.

just a question though.... aint 6'9s on the back meant to be like a subsititue for for subs?? thus makin bass.??
i always thought thats what they were LOL...
anyway... u could probly get a 4 channel amp for ur speakers and a mono block for ur Sub.. thats the best way 2 do it i thinks... but i guess u can run em all off one amp if u had 2
but what i would do (which i intend on doin LOL)... putting in 6' splits on front door and leaving stock speakers on back... with a 12' sub...
i tried it out in my car with friends speakers and it sounded good... i donno jsut a suggestion
that way u dont need another amp and all

I wished now that I would have keeped my first system. I had a Kenwood Ex 5ch and replaced all for speakers with Alpine and had a 10in Kicker comp. Not to bassy but good enough. But no I had to upgrade. A yr later and my right ear hurts win I crank it so now I have to put in an ear plug when I want bass. Check with Matty, he had the same kind of amp that I had. His might be a little differant. I had the 1500watt (not really but thats what it said) something like 65 watts rms by 4 and 300 watts rms for the sub. And the sub part is a d class amp (sub amp). Put a 12 on that amp and you'll be good to go. Also you can do all of this and still use the factory deck so no one will know you have a system.

Well the reason I had asked this was because someone told me that I could run the 6x9's and the sub on 1 amp but I would be underpowering the speakers. So to get more from it, I should use 1 amp for the 6x9's and 1 for the sub.
Mey MC, what exactly are 6' spilts and they're gonna fit good in the front doors?

i donno if splits is exactly the right word... but its just 6inch speakers... with cross over and tweeters mounted onthe Apillar..
i guess it kinda goes from the stock look but sound quality is much much better i noticed...
yeh hughes412 is right... i forgot about the Kenwood 5ch amps... i dont know how good it is... i just got a pioneer 1200W amp... (4 x 300W with 2X600 bridged).. i am running 600W on the sub with 2 of em bridged... and i wil be running 2 x 300Ws with the other 2 channels for front speakers...
what kinda equipment u goin for?

hehe if u plan on upping the power on the door speakers make sho u invest in some sound deadening too.... because it does make a difference....
with the boot... man i am yet to deaden it but see how it goes..

Well if you have what I think you have your only pushing 60 watts RMS per ch on the amp and the speakers are 50 RMS. So yes you can be over powering but you would have to have all of the setting up.
Do this.
Try turning all of your setting down. Trb, bass, mids all go to the neg setting, and the gains on the amp to the lowest setting. Then turn the volume to about 3/4 of the way up. Start turning the gain on the amp up until you hear the speakers distort. Once you hear it back the gain down just a little. Then adjust the B,Treb, and so on.
When going through all of my stuff this last time I found out that I was doing it wrong. I watched them tune mine and wow it sounds way better.
As far as putting the speakers in the rear doors, I wouldn't. The 6x9s will over power them because they are high in the car so you'll never hear the 6s in the rear doors.
As far as bass coming from the 6x9s. Our rear decks are to light and viberate way to much. Get some dyno mat and put on the rear deck. That will help alot keeping the bass alive.

dude, just get 2 amps like MC said. One 4 channel amp for your upgrade speakers and one mono amp for your subs. Just remember to get the right wattage so not to underpower or owerpower your speakers and sub.

i always find its better to get a amp that over powers.....
why??
well that way u dont have to have ur amp running @ full power... (wont heat the thing up much either hehe...) i have my gain set on about 70% with full LFP and HPF off.... also mine has that bass booster crap... i got them turned off too hehe...
just make sure when ur tunning u do what hughes said... i did the same thing and it sounds wonderful now... START FROM LOWEST SETTING!! hehehe
