1996 Protege Stereo Installation
First of all I'd like to say hello. I'm new here and found this board after a lot of searching around the internet for some help.
Well, here are the details. I bought a 1996 Mazda Protege at the beginning of 2009. The guy I bought it from had already installed a new stereo system + speakers. About six months ago someone decided it was a good idea to break into my car and steal the radio. They ripped it out and damaged one of the speakers.
A friend of mine recently got a new stereo and gave me their old one to put into my car, however I have no idea how to do it and all of the help I've read/watched on the net assumes all of the wires are intact and all you have to do is unplug the harness and put the new one in. That is not the case in my situation.
I want to do the job myself because I want the experience. I also don't have the money to have it put in (being a starving college student sucks). I have just about no experience with electrical systems or wiring, so that doesn't help too much but hey you have to start somewhere.
So I have two questions:
1. How do I install the new radio that I have? Do I need to purchase a new wire harness?
2. How would I repair the speaker? The damage is nothing too big. They just pulled on it and tried to get it out but just managed to pull the screws out of the door - the wires are still attached. Would it be alright to just take a power drill to it ?
I'm sorry in advance if my questions are too broad or seem stupid, and thank you for reading
