2002 Rear Deck Speakers?
As stated somewhere else in this forum.... Cruthfield states that the only 6x9's they carry for the rear deck of the 2002 protege(without modification) are Bazookas. Is this correct? Can I not get a set of aftermarket 6x9's in the rear deck without modifacation? Anyone have any info on this? I've seen many put 6.5's in the rear, but what aaobut 6x9's???
Also, Crutchfield does not have the master sheets for the 2002. Anyone have instructions on getting the new speakers in the rear deck? Or is there anywhere i can find them on the NET? Thanks for any help you guys can give.

I have the ES Sedan. There are stock 6x9's in the rear deck and I'd like to replace with 6x9's but Crutchfield is saying only Bazooka's will fit. Wonder why? I'm not putting Bazookas in there. Like to use Kenwood. I'd also like to know how to put these in. Any help??? I know...... take the stock ones out and put the new ones in, right?

Any 6x9 will fit - don't listen to Crotchfield - that must be a mistake. A 6x9 is a 6x9, no matter who makes it (for the most part, anyway)
Look in your trunk - you should be able to see where and how the stock speakers are mounted. Replacing them should be a snap.

Well....... I put some Kenwood 6x9's in there. They fit fine BUT I think the tweeter and midrange extend too high and that maybe the reason why crutchfield says no. The dumb speaker grill dips down into the rear dash making it harder to mount these. But I DID fit them in and get the dash snapped back on with no problems. They sound great and I hear no rattle even though the top of the speaker may be touching the grill. Will this be alright? Hope so.

You might want to use the Kenwood grilles (assuming the new 6x9s came with them). That way, the speaker won't be touching them.
I guess it's possible that this is why Crotchfield says they won't fit - because of the height. That's kinda dumb though, they oughta "footnote" it, saying that the speakers fit, just without the stock grilles.
As long as none of the speaker cones touch the grille, you should be fine. If it's just like the plastic part that holds the tweeter, that's okay. But just know you can try the Kenwood grilles, too.

Well........ the stock grills are parts of the rear dash. It's ALL one big peice of plastic. I'd have to cut them out. I'm not about to do that. The part that is touching, if any, is just the plastic holding the tweets. No part of the woofer is touching. Again, hope this ok.

I think if only the plastic part holding the tweets touch the grill, it should be okay, as long there's nothing to hinder the tweeter cone vibration (yeah, the tweets barely move).

Ok- I didn't know that the grilles were part of the rear deck.
But you should be fine with it the way it is. If you are at all worried, you could even use a few small strips of adhesive foam insulation (any Home Depot - less than $5) as a cushion between the speaker and the stock grille. Agin, only if you're concerned - you should be fine the way you are as long as the speaker cones themselves are clear.
