2003 Tweeters in a 2002
Can the tweeters in a 2003 MP5 be installed in 2002 model? Is this an easy thing to do? Do the tweeters make a big difference in the sound? Does anyone have the tweeters and the grills for sale? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I believe the plastic triangle with the speakers and built in mounts are available for order from your Mazda dealer. I'd guess the cost is probably pretty high for what you get.
I'd just add separate tweeters on the existing triangle pieces. Most tweeters come with surface mounting hardware. They would screw right to the existing triangle, which just pops off the door.
Most complicated part will be wiring in the tweeters. You'll have to remove the door panel to get the speaker wires for the tweeters to those in the door.
Many aftermarket tweeters come with an in line crossover that removes the bass from the signal going to the tweeters. That should be enough, enough you want to get real picky about your sound. In that case, you should probably consider a set of component speakers, that come with a separate crossover designed specifically for that set of speakers.
The separate crossover keeps the highs out of the low range driver and the lows out of the tweeter. If you get just an add on tweeter, you'll get the high frequencies produced by both the door speaker and the add on tweeter.
From my experience this is usually not a negative, as tweeters are very directional and the door speakers are sending most of the high frequency information that is duplicated by the tweeter at your feet.
Like all audio, however, it's what sounds good to you that counts.
