8" Subs in Rear Deck

I was wondering if anyone gave any thought to something that I am thinking about. I want to install 2 8" subs in the rear deck to complement 2 12" in the trunk. Has anyone tried this?
I did a search and found threads on installing 6x9's or other speakers in the rear deck but not a set up that I have in mind.
I don' t have plans to build a custom box to house the 2 8's and 2 12's..I might have to though if I don't have any other choice.
Thanks.

Subs really need to be installed in a rigid englosure - even free-air subs need to be mounted to a solid surface in order to function properly.

Most "free-air" subs kinda suck anyway, and the rear cargo cover is too flexible to be of use for subs. You'd probably wind up with just sloppy mud, and very little clean bass.

Just my $.02

After looking into the idea, and reading the replies, even though it looked like a good idea on paper, it would sound like crap. I guess I am just going to build a custom enclosure for the trunk.
Btw, does anyone here know how to post pictures on this forum? I want to post pics of the install but I don't know how to put them on here. thanks.

JL free airs are actualy quite impressive. I installed on in a 2001 BMW M3s trunk pass through. It performed very well. But it was extreamly staqble not on some crappy card board. And the back wave had no chance of interfering with the front wave. I never lick mixing subs. It takes far to many amps and processors, EQ/crossovers to tune right. If you want the smack of 8s with the volume of 12s do 4 10s in a slightly small boxes built with individual sealed chambers and give it alot of power.
