'87-89 323 seat swap
Well, the insult to backsides everywhere, the vinyl Don Rickles of front car seats are outta the Stigmobile.
Whatever reasoning made Mazda (aside from the obvious price/marketing considerations) put these things in my '88 323 hatchback eludes me. They suck!
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not some "Ricer" (not that there's anything wrong with that) that needs Sparcos & a 5 point harness to hold me tight while I pull 2gs through the Senna Esses at Interlagos. I just wanted something to hold my butt (Ashley Judd?) firmly have some side bolstering & lumbar support.
So, I scored a pair of '93 black cloth MX3 seats from a junkyard. HOOCHIE MAMA! They do the trick! It's like driving an entirely different car. WOW: I don't slide around in the seat while cornering! OOOH: the lower centre of gravity. AAAH: better reach to the steering wheel & controls! All for about US$130.
This may sound extreme, but, dollar for dollar I think its the best upgrade!
Tips: keep your stock 323 seat rails. You will need some longer bolts & nuts & some stuff to make spacers. Be patient, save the beers for after the work is done.
If you need more info feel free to drop me a line.
