'91 protege and rear deck speaker installation
hey guys :-) I'm pretty new to the forums so I thought I should introduce myself. I just bought myself a 1991 Mazda Protege LX...and I'm having problems with the installation of my Blaupunkt ODxa543's. I read all the specs about my car saying that the back speakers were 5.25" so that's the size speakers I got. I just got the stock speakers out of there and was going to put my new blaupunkts in and noticed...the hole is too big. I was just wondering if Mazda did this to all the proteges or what? I am a newbie to car audio installation so this is my learning expierence :-) The speaker had no information on how to install them with them so maybe I'm just missing something? Thanks in advance for any help

yep
I just installed my blau's in the back above the trunk in my 94 protege. Yeah they say that it fits 5.25's but it doesnt-you need a speaker harness thing a ma jig. The more I think about it I think you can install a 6.5 in there(makes me wonder ).
I ordered mine from crutchfield and they gave me all the harnessing stuff. It's a black circle that goes in before you install the speaker that helps to make it fit. They look like this: http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/list...ker%20Adapters
It took a while for me to install mine though-for some reason the Mazda just wasn't cooperating with me. Good Luck!

LOL
There should be an FAQ on this topic!!!
6.5" speakers will fit but you have to drill new holes in the metal to mount them.
You will need to cut out a baffle from a scrap piece of plywood or MDF to fit your 5.25" speakers.
5 minute job with a sabre saw and a drill.

I really suck with handywork and stuff :-) So I just need the spacer or should I find a whole adapter? This is what I was looking at:
