? about ohm load

How would I wire (2) Dual 4 ohm subs to show a load of 2 ohms ? or is that even possible?

Thanks, Ian

If you connect the two 4 ohm speakers in parallel, the total resistance will be 2 ohms. In a parallel circuit where all the resistances are the same, take the value of one of the resistances and divide by the number of resistances.
4/2 = 2

in the general case in a parallel circuit, where all resistances are either the same or different, the total resistance is the sum of the reciprocal of the reciprocals. In this case:
1 divided by 1/4 + 1/4 = 2

do you have a diagram of this?

********edit******

Would i have to then parallel it again? or not. becuase in my speaker booklet it shows. parallel/parallel and that will bring it down to 1 ohm correct? am i missing something here?

Sorry, I don't. Each speaker will have two terminals. Connect one terminal of each speaker to signal positive and the other terminal of each speaker to ground (or ground return). Then, the two speakers will be connected in parallel and if each speaker is 4 ohms, the combination of the two 4 ohm speakers in parallel will equal 2 ohms.

I guess I'm not understanding the problem. If by a dual 4 ohm sub you mean two 4 ohm speakers in one housing connected in parallel, then each sub would have an impedance of 2 ohms. If that is the case, then connecting the two subs in parallel would indeed yield a 1 ohm resistance. If I am correct in assuming this, then to get a circuit with a total 2 ohm impedance, you would have to connect the two subs in series. In a series circuit, the resistances just add together:
1 ohm + 1 ohm = 2 ohms.

I don't know if I'm helping or if I'm just confused here.

no i ment each speaker has dual 4-ohm voice coils. i figured it out and i couldnt get a 2-ohm load with the set-up i have right now without adding another dvc 4-ohm sub. the only possiblites i have would be 1-ohm , 4-ohm, and and 16-ohm. since i dont want to risk it i'll stay with the 4-ohm load set-up i have right now.

But thanks anyways, Ian

FYI, here's a link to a page showing all the various sub hook-ups for the desired resistance: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-....html?view=all
