Add mp3 player to stock HU?

Hey guys,

Long time no see!!

Anybody know if i can take a portable mp3 player and have an audio shop add an output cable from the stock HU to the player? I don't have the money for a mp3 deck, so I'm trying to take the cheap route. I have a 2001 ES, btw.

Thanks for the help!

iPod and tape adapter...or since I have a Pioneer HU, I just used the AUX inputs to hook up the iPod. No need to carry CDs anymore

This only works on the Miata Bose systems; not advised for the Proteges.

A couple of manufacturers are indicating that they are coming out with auxilliary input modules for our radios, BlitzSafe being one of them.

Its the same radio if its the ordinary, non bose system. If you have the singile din radio.

And according to the site where I got it this should work for both.

Has anyone tried this? Can you explain why this woundn't work?

Even the voltage outputs are the same.

Sorry, my goof. I was refering to the the double din, modular 6 cd changer that can take either a cassette or mp3 player module. I can't speak for the single din units.

umm, I've got no Idea what the single dins are like, but with the 2dins, there's absolutely no way it'd work. the plugs are entirely different creatures. And inspite of numerous ppl attempting to crack it, none have figured it out, itll likely involve some resistors, and some +12v connections as well. plus it's a chipboard-style plug instead of a molex kind of thing which'll make making attachments or even finding a harness quite tricky.

Why dont you buy an FM Modulator from radio shack for 10 dollars? Then stuff the ipod in your glove box or something?

Thanks for all the help guys...actually the hubby just got me the Kenwood KDC X579 HU just a little while ago. The quality is awesome. Sounds much more powerful than the stock HU.
