Well compustar was the first compant to do the 2-way systems. So I'm sure if they've lasted this long they know what they are doing. Yes it does look like a better system but I'm going to go with the Ungo.

Goodluck with the install and let us know what system you pick and how the install goes.

If you have never installed an alarm before, i advise against it. It's might look easy, connect this wire top that one blah blah blah, but no it's not that easy. I have been doing alarms and stereos for 12 years and an average alarm install time is 4-6 hours. My customers have never seen such a good installation....not to sound all high and mighty, but my customers have given lots of praise on how i and my shop installs them.

I install the DEI Viper 550ESP (non-2-way alarm/starter) for $495 on any auto tranny car. The only exception are cars equiped with OEM anti theft systems and diesels...as modules are required. All other add-on modules are extra. Having said that, the Ungo system seems to fit the price range, since it's not as good as DEI and has 2-way capability.

BTW, Ungo is made by Clarion.

again, i suggest you have the alarm professionally installed, or at very least, expertly installed. Now, my question is, why is it so much more for alarms on the east coast???? i may just have to set-up shop out there and make a killing

I was curious as to why everyone has been quoted so much out here as well. My hook-up at the car audio shop said $275 for me. I talked to a guy outside the shop and he was charged almost $400 for the exact same setup. Knowing people is great....

I dunno why so much.

All the places I've talked to if you buy and have them install a system that they've done 100's of times it cost little to nothing. For example the place I will be getting my Ungo installed at does sell viper/dei systems as well and those range from $70-$300 for the system plus installation. So if I wanted to go cheap sure I can have a system in my car for $70 and thats it.

Reason they carge $200+ for installing other systems is b/c they don't know the system and how hard it's going to be and it's also going to take longer to install, again b/c they've never done that particular system.

I would go with either a 2-way system or nothing. I really do not see the point in normal car alarm systems. Ok great it makes a lot of noise and pisses a lot of ppl off when it's not turned off within a minute or so but whats the point? Not like someone would stop/care if something actually was happening to the car. With the 2-way system I am alerted something is going on right then and I have the option to walk out to my car to see whats going on or just turn the alarm off depending on why the alarm went off.

Of course if I did want to go the normal alarm route I've got a friend at bestbuy and their top-notch system they sell for like $450 installed only cost them $70 so I could get that threw my friend but like I said I do not see the point in these systems as they do not alert me when something is going on. Sure I MIGHT hear the alarm but wouldn't know for sure that it IS my car that's going off and why.

Thats certainly understandable, as you could spend and hour programming it if the instructions are ***-backwards....or if the unit is defective out of the box...too many factors...so sure, the price will go up.

For systems i know of, i charge $120 to install the basic system, for ones i've never dealt with, $200+, so there right on the money there...

Just had my system installed yesterday. I got the Clarion Ungo 2-way system, I think it's the ms2007 or something like that.

First impression while talking to the installer. Defiently worth the money. He said it wasn't to hard to install although it took time to figure it out at first. Once he finished it and we played with it for awhile to figure out the buttons and program everything. WOW! very nice range and features.

Manual says around 1000ft range. I was able to park in the back of a wal-mart parking lot and go inside to the furthest partion and still query my car for a status.

Dual-Shock mode. If it gets a light bump the car will chirp and then the pager will let me know it was lightly bumped. Hard bump will fully set the alarm off and also pager again will let me know of a hard bump.

Remote start. Not only press a button to start it but it will let you know if it indeed did start or not. This is great so no more worring if the car did start or not as it'll tell you. Once you press the start button it will say starting then about 30-40 seconds later it'll play a little tune and say engine running. If you don't hear the tune simply press the start button again to retry. If the key is not in the ignition within 15 minutes it turns itself off or you can turn it off by pressing the button again.

Those are just some of the features I love about this. It has a lot more like any other normal system but I am very impressed so far and so was Extreme Audio who installed it.

On another side note they can't wait for me to come back for my custom audio install once I get this paid off as everyone there LOVED my MP5.

Yes, remote start isn't the best of things for a manual transmision. In order for it to work you have to leave the car in nuteral all the time.

For me and my auto (I know but the wife is going to be driving it also) it works just fine.
