Viper (or any DEI brand) and Clifford are the best alarms out there. They have moderately priced systems and go thru the roof priced systems. I'm sure you can find one in your price range.
I would suggest the Viper300ESP. Has all th basic security features you need and most alarms nowadays have the keyless entry feature built in, although some may need external relays to opereate the cars doorlock motors.

Above all, the installation will make or break an alarm, even a cheap alam well installed will provide better protection and reliability than an poorly installed great alarm.
If you have factory power doorlocks, keyless entry can be added very easily, if you do not have factory power doorlocks, then you would have to add aftermarket actuators in each door to get keyless entry.

Is keyless entry really needed and do they have to remove door panel to install?I can save 100 bucks and I heard a code scanner can disarm most alarms. Also if the brain of alarm goes down car will have to be towed to shop to install new brain, it will not start otherwise.

on protege's with factory power doorlocks, you do not need to go into the door, except for a 1st gen, a doorlock actuator must be added to the drivers door.
Keyless entry on an alarm can be used or not. 99% of alarms has the feature, it's just a matter of hooking it up.
Yes, alarms that do not have code hopping or anti code grabbing technology can be scanned and replayed, just find an alarm that has a patent anti code grabbing feature (i.e. DEI/Clifford)
BTW, $100 for just keyless entry is a total rip off. I charge that for a COMPLETE keyless entry system, your getting screwed. At the very most for a protege, $35, unless it's for a 1st gen (must add actuator) maybe up to $75-80

does the viper300esp have a starter kill switch and do I need a hood pin as well? Also do I need any other security features?Should connections be soldered or what? Can sensitivity be adjusted as well?

The 300ESP comes with all the basics, includes starter kill relay, shock sensor, door inputs, trunk/hood inputs, x2 AUX channels, keyless entry, + a bunch more.
On the Protege if you want to protect the hood, yes, you will need to add a hood pin switch.
Connections should always be soldered.
shock sensor is adjustable.
check out my Security FAQ, link is below in my sig.
As for other security features, thats up to you, but the more you add, the more in labor and parts and sometimes the more prone to mishaps aswell. the more you have, the more you have to go wrong. DEI products are excellent quality, but, like all alarms, if they aren't installed properly, you might as well just leave the keys in the door....
I think the 300ESP as it comes will be a perfect start. It's expandilbe, so other sensors/features can be added relatively easily in the future.
