AMP suggestions?

I am running two alpine 12" type R (SWR-1241D) subs and am unsure as to what kind of amp i need to push them properly. I am currently using a kenwood kac-728s to power them and its not bad but the amp gets really hot in a short time. So I was thinking of a class D amp to run them but I only want a single amp to run both subs. I was thinking JL 500.1 but its a little on the pricey side so I wondered if anyone had these subs and what they were running them with. Oh, also I am using a sealed enclosure of 1 cu ft per sub.

Amp

Go with a rockford bd 500.1 for each of them, good quality, and will pound the **** out of them.

The .1 amps whether it be 500.1 or 1000.1 are monoblock amps if you run a seperate amp to each, you will guarantee equal power and efficient power, I would run a bat cap to those also.

Happy hunting

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those are 300 watts RMS each correct?

Go get yourself a JBL 600.1, and wire the subs down to 1 ohm (the JBL can handle it just fine) - you'll get 600+ watts of good clean power (300+ per sub).

The JBL mono amps are solid performers, and a great bargain at well under $200 ($184 on eBay right now).

I think you might give the Alpines a bit too much with two RF 500 amps.

Another excellent option would be to look into the JBL 1200.1 - same great amp as the 600, only 2x the power - but if you wire the subs to 4 ohms instead of 1 ohm, you'd still get the same 600+ (300 each sub) of power, with lots of room to upgrade subs down the road without buying another amp. The 1200.1 is selling in the $250-$275 range on eBay also - a steal for that kind of 1 ohm stable power. Also check out www.ikesound.com or www.bsless.com for great prices on equipment.

if money is an issue, go with the jbl amp(s). probably the most bang for your buck as far as amps go.

and if you get the jbl 1200.1 amp, you might have to get an adire brahma sub... (sorry, kinda an inside joke)

I would go with the Phoenix gold Tantrum 500.2.

Hehe - a JBL 1200.1 and a Brahma seem to go together like tequila and lime these days. Oh yeah - and don't forget the "salt" - an Optima Yellow Top!
