amping 2 rear speakers
i was wondering if anyone ever amped their rear 2 speakers? i keep reading about people amping their front 2 speakers and putting in an amp and keeping the soundstage in the front... i find i get way more sound from my rear speakers! i changed all my speakers in my car, and i noticed when i was changing the fronts that they aren't as loud and don't have as much bass, but maybe they just need an amp to drive them better. anywassince my rear speakers sound way better and i almost don't hear my front speakers i was thinking of just amping the rear speakers.

bass-ackwards IMHO. the front speakers i seem to have a problem with too, just feeling like you don't get as much mid-bass from them as you like. what kind of speakers do you have in the front and the back?? i would just say run a 4 channel amp and juice up your fronts and tone down your back speakers a little bit. if you're looking to find subs for your car, i personally would have to say that any rear-fill below 120hz is irrelevant. now from my experience, yes, i have just amped my rear speakers before, and to tell you the truth, they sounded like ***! they we're totally unbalanced even with any adjustment i did, they didn't fill out right, didn't take 100 watts very well as they say they can handle, and not to mention how ****** ear piercing and annoying loud highs can be. with a set of 6 1/2 pioneer 2-ways in my rear deck, i saw no benefit what so ever from just amping them and not the fronts. now acoustically, (somebody back me up on this theory), you have a totally different set up. on your rear deck, unless they have baffles, they have the whole trunk area to reflect sound waves off, however your doors, it's a smaller enclosure and doesn't provide as much space as your rear deck may. dynamat your front doors first and see what kind of benefit you get, then if that doesn't work out entirely too good, get a four channel amp and adjust the levels to where you like them.

Is this a sedan? You would hear the rear speakers more- they are larger speakers and and up higher in the car!
The 6x9 will be louder than a 6x8 all things being equal. Demoninvictus is more or less correct on the size of the baffles- trunk vs. door, and on using a little deadening material around the fronts.
If were were cats, with those 32 muscles in thier ears, we could turn our ears around to hear the sound behind us as well as in front of us!!
As is, we are very directional listeners, and poor ones at that. Our upper frequency hearing is poor as is our ability to sense source of low frequency notes. From the back of head one does not hear highs nearly as well as from the front. It is like listening to a concert sitting with your back to the wall.
I don't mean to jump on this, but you will in the long run be happier with a good front soundstage, but as always it is really what YOU like.

hi again, well first off i won't be putting any sub in the car, i don't need it for the kind of music i listen to, i've kind of decided on a 4 channel amp, i figure why not just amp them all! from reading all the info i can about installing i have to make sure i run the cable with the power from the battery on the opposite side of the car as the other cables right? another question, since i haven't even checked out any amps in person i am wondering about the inputs, i would like to get one where i can run the spaker wires right in to it, but so i have to run all 4 speakers into the amp or can i just run 2 wires and then output 4? i'm guessing if i could do that then i would lose the fader control on my radio

ibanex78- you have it on the nose I think. The key long run is the power. The gound is also vital, but you want it to be close to the amp. You want to look for an amp that will allow high level input, that is what will allow speaker level lines to go directly to the amp. You could use Line Out Converters (LOCs) but there are many decent amps with the option you are looking for. Yes, you do want to run four wires, or you will lose fading control, which is pretty important for setting up the system. It is easier than you might imagine, and folks here could walk you though it.
There are several folks here who have specialized in using the stock head unit as the basis of some really nice systems, and I have done two of the same.
