Antenna Conversion

Jus out of curiousity, has anyone made an antenna conversion from the normal antenna of a Protege sedan, which is above the driver side window, to the VW style antenna like the P5's? I'm thinking about doing this in the future, but I have no clue about how much it'll cost. Do any of you know about how much you think that would cost? Thanks.

Can be done, fairly easily i would assume from looking at my manual..

Don't know about removing the mast off the sedan, but to put a new 'remote control car antenna' mast on the roof simply requires buying the required equipment, taking out your headliner, running the line and drilling a hole in the roof.

I know that JUST for the antenna and not the mounting hardware is about 35$ CDN so it could wind up being a pricey mod, but would look really cool on the sedan!

What would you put in the space where the current antenna is?

Would you leave the current hardware where it is, or would you remove it and fill the hole in somehow?

If it was me, i'd remove the mast and fill the hole with autobody putty and paint it to match..

Definitly unique.. Don't think I've ever seen a pro sedan with an antenna mod like that.. Maybe I should do that with my old Escort!! It's mostly a mazda, would that count?

Fer sure!!

My old escorts gotten me through a lotta clicks on the odo with ultimately very little in the way of maintenance. It's starting to nickle and dime right now, and the timing belt is due for another replacement, but other than that is in pretty good shape for being 10 years old with over 200,000 km on it...

GO MAZDA!!

The Wings West MP3 has the VW style antenna. When I saw it, that's when I got the idea that i wanna do that 2 a normal pro.

How would you run the cable for the antenna from its current location to the back part of the hood? Would that involve taking off the interior headliner? I'm guessing it would.

Like I said....I'm too much of a puss when it comes to screwing around with stuff like that!
