Anyone installed a DEI Hornet 554T alarm system w/pager?

It looks pretty impressive. My daughter just bought a 2003 LX and needs some additional security. The pager capability is very attractive!

I can get the Hornet 554T on EBay for $180 shipped.

Also, the Viper 790XV for $250 and the Clifford Matrix RS3 with Responder for $282.

Anyone have any comments on these?

Also, I have installed a multi-amp audio system in my Passat. Can I handle the install on these units?

Thanks!

the install is the same as any other remote start system. They are all basically the exact same unit, except for a few different features. The Hornet will do ya just fine. They are great quality units, i was a Viper dealer for several years and have dealt with DEI/Viper for over 10 years.

The installation of an alarm can be deceptive, but if you take your time and use good judgement, it's a smooth process. For your first time, i'd allow a full weekend. It may only take you the one day, but best to plan ahead. I average about 4-6 hours for a full remote start install and i've been doing it for 12+ years.

Feel free to email or PM with any questions. The Manuals that come with the units are some of the best and most comprehensive in the industry and will guide you through every step, but for some more info, check out my Alarm FAQ (link is under my sig photo)

That's for sure. make sure to check any wires you tap that go from the engine compartment to the interior b/c sometimes the wire color will change. I've seen alot of blown fuses over this. Also, a voltmeter comes in real handy if you don't know which wires do what.
