Attention: TheMan - How to reset/reprogram remote

I posted this here because the PM mailbox is full.

Hey TheMan, I searched the forum for instructions to how to reset the remote for the keyless entry system but found nothing. I also looked in the "How to" section as I remember you posted something about it some time ago, but apparently it was deleted.

Can you give me the intructions on how the reset the remote, and will the reset adversely affect frequency of remote?

Thanks in advance and thanks for the E-code headlight info last time also.

Edwin is a changed Man (get it? lmao )

can you imagine a kinder, gentler Edwin that actually takes time to answer n00b or stupid question?

that's what he was doing on the other forum.

until recently, when he regressed back to the good old Edwin we know

hey, lets get back on track here, ok i found this in my favorites list on my computer, apparentyl way back in the day i found it and thought that one day it may become useful. The link still works, so here you go...

OEM Keyless Entry Remote Reprogramming (3rd gen)
"Ok, I finally gotten off my *** and wrote this quick and dirty how-to" (The Man):

1999-2003 Protege OEM Keyless Entry Code Change How-to
The following is a how-to on changing the security codes on the remote and keyless entry module in case you are either paranoid or having problems with your keyless entry.

1. Make sure there are no keys in the ignition and that all doors are closed
2. Open driver's side door
3. Insert key into ignition switch and cycle the key between the ON and LOCK positions 3 times
4. Remove key from ignition switch
5. Push the driver's side door sensor switch 3 times
6. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock.
If nothing happens, wait 40 seconds and start from step 3 again
7. Press any button on any transmitter twice
8. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
9. If you have only 1 remote, press any button on that remote twice.
If you have 2 or 3 remotes, press any button on any of the other remotes twice.
10. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
11. If you have 1 or 2 remotes, press any button on either remote twice.
If you have 3 remotes, press any button on the 3rd remote twice.
12. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
13. The codes should now be reprogrammed

Note A:
1. Hold down the driver's side door sensor switch
2. Verify that the doors lock and unlock twice
3. Start from step 3 again

If you start working on 1 remote, finish working with that 1 remote until you're done reprogramming it!!!

This was all written by THEMAN, so thank him, i'm just the one who found it, hope it works.
