Auto Trans Handle
Does anyone have any experience replacing/removing the auto trans handle?
I see the two screws on the front side of the handle but I'm concerned about any wires or electronics connected to the overdrive button.
Replies from anyone with experience in this would be greatly appreciated.

Couldn't the OD button be relocated if necessary? If it's simple two-wire button, you could probably pick up a similar button at any auto parts or electronics store and put it wherever you want.
Just a thought.
Also, someone on another board did have some trouble removing the auto trans shifter **** - once the two screws were out, it still wouldn't come off. I'm interested myself, because I may be painting my interior plastic trim, and there is a piece surrounding the gear selector (a smaller insert not present with a stick-shift). The shifter needs to be removed to get this trim piece out.
Just a thought.

I would have to agree that it isn't that easy to remove. After removing the two screws and lifting up I was able to remove the chrome plunger, but still couldn't get the handle to come off. It move up about a quarter of an inch but then stopped, I didn't want to apply a lot of force for fear of breaking something.
Any suggestions?

I did the same thing - it feels to me as though the OD button wire is what is holding up the works - you can feel some "give" once you get the handle pulled up a bit - feels like a wire stretching.
I'm going to follow this up for sure -
BTW - there are some NICE Razo shift ***** out there for autos - they even have an OD button.
Check these out:
Pricey (about $125 where I've seen them), but SWEET!! I'm thinking 'bout it, believe me. I might even be able to get a deal on them if anyone is interested.
I'll post again if I figure out the removal of the stock shifter.

I got a link. Options Auto Salon sells them for $105. That is the best deal I have been able to find. Right now their site is down but I can give you the part #. CM-RA92 or CM-RA91 are the two different choices.

Here is a pic though. I spoke to a Camry owner with the RA92 and he loves it. Everyone who has seen it in person tells him that they definately want to get one. It looks like a great shifter.

I hear you. I'm in Canada too but thats just the way thing are for us. In fact, it is usually cheaper to order from the US than most of the local shops. My local performance shop wanted $375 Cdn for the AEM intake plus then I have to add on 13% sales taxes. No thank you. I may order this shift though. There are some Carbon Fiber looking pedals made by RAZO that I may order at the same time. Which size do you prefer?

Yeah, bucks is right - I might not be able to help myself from getting one though - they're just too sweet, especially with the integrated OD button - that feature can be hard to find.
I think I might have to cut down the shifter's post to make it look nice, though . It would look kinda wierd up high like the stock shifter - would look better down lower, like in the photos from other cars.
Definitely going to look into this one......
Oh, and I think any pedals should cover the entire stock pedal at least. Otherwise they look stupid as hell.

I'll have to measure the width of the stock pedals and make my decision based on that. I agree that it would look awful if it didn't cover the whole pedal. I wish you could remove the stock pedals and replace them with aftermarket ones, rather than bolt or fasten on new ones.

I think you can remove the rubber portion of the brake pedal - I'm not 100% sure, but I think it only wraps around a metal plate underneath it, the rubber can be removed, and new a pedal screwed or clamped to it. Not sure about the gas, but the brake is usually the size problem anyway. Check it out.

Sorry, I was unclear what I meant was that the shops around here don't have those types of ***** in shift ***** in stock with the overdrive buttons. They can however get them but they will be very expensive as the stores charge an arm and a leg for something that they don't normally carry.
