Bodykit possibility
I dunno how many 2nd gens have read the post i put up in the exterior.. but i got an encouraging response.. Here it is..
Wanna know how to make lots of sales at this forum?? Build parts for 2nd Gen Protege's.. there are hundreds of 3rd gen/pro5 bodykits and conversions.. but only 1 real, unsafe, overpriced kit for a 2nd gen.. and by reading over the posts, and my own wishes.. there are lots of 2nd gen owners asking and wanting kits for their car..
I've seen your kit for the 99-01 protege.. its sweet.. something like that for a second gen, and for a good price, well, i would assume that you'd get lots of inquiries.. thats for sure..
just my thoughts.. i wish i had the skillz to do a kit.. i'd mass produce for sure..
This is what he wrote:
Send us picture and design you want us to make for 2gen....
We could design this over winter
thanks

The have a group buy option.. and i'm really interested in this.. I think if we have enough people.. and we all sit down and decide on a design.. then we could get a nice group buy price.. and since you lucky american's have a much better dollar then us, then i see it as a bonus to you. cause looking at his prices, i don't think they are too expensive.. send some feed back soon if you are interested.. cause getting him started on this in the winter, it sure would be sweet to roll in in the summer with a new kit!

I think group buys are a good idea to kick off a product that can hopefully stay on a market, but this have been tried here before with turbo manifolds and other things that people simply could not put out a wad of cash for. I think group buys could be excellent for a small item that does not cost a lot, and could improve either performance or looks of the car. I think a full body kit would cost too much for a group buy. I think if someone was to make front/rear lips or skirts, then it might be a decent start. I am going to look into making parts for 2nd gen in the spring, because then I should have some money, and some time. Though good luck to the rest of you if you can get something started.

I guess I will be the first to let you know, that nobody will even try anything like this.... I found another company like onderground designs that would make custom kits for any car, but nobody was interested. I thought for sure people would want a kit for under $700 (group buy, 10 people) but I thought wrong.... so pretty much what Im trying to say is.... Dont cramp your hands trying to type anymore on this topic. Sorry

you have to understand that the way it works most of the time is that someone has to be the guinea pig , so someone has to get the kit and be the first to show the pics ,, and then others gotta like it and so forth and so forth ....

i'm definantly interested. a few of the problems though will be the difference between 95-96 and 97-98 years, i don't mind loosing my turn signals and haveing to make something up cause to be honest i hate my turn signals on my 95. If we can do this for a good price then i'd love to see this happen. The only thing is like they said its hard to get this group to do a buy if it cose more than $40 or $50. It will take till the summer for me to have the money but i would love to do this. Keep me informed.
It would be nice if we could find someone that is good at art or computer design to help us make something.

there are currently 2 kits, one is the eruboni kit a little over 600 and you must remove the front bumper for it to fit (against the law in the U.S.) then there is the mazdaspeed kit which is over $2,000 and has been discontinued but advanced imports might have some left. There are two people discussing making kits for us which one of them is mentioned in this thread at the beginning the other guy i'm talking to but won't post info till i have something really to tell about it.

This is the Erubini 709 on my 98
The rear end snaps on pretty much like the oem piece, and the side skirts screw in at both ends into holes you drill (and I applied bonding material at various points to bond it to the underseam, I used RV Cement which is removable and not hindered by temperature change or weather) but the front end was 10 hours in planning alone. Erubini didn't plan out the attachment process...period. It required modifications to the fenders, the bumper reinforcement (which they recommend you remove, lol) and the AC compressor/Radiator mounts. I also had to modify the wheel well covers up front so the flaps that usually attach to the front end would sit inside the new one, just some trimming..
Ohh I also forgot, the rear end DID require remounting the exhaust. I had a custom post-pipe bent to shift the muffler 4.25"s so the tip of the muffler was centered to the outlet of the rear bumper cover.
