Hey I like those! How did you paint them? With a brush? Did you remove them first? I'm thinking maybe I'd do that to the "Protege" and the "Mazda" but leave the middle emblem alone. Hmmm...Cool idea!

Question

Why did you have to use 3m tape to stick them back on? I thought that they were screwed in.

the "protege" and "mazda" emblem in the back are only held in with friction plugs. open the trunk, find the locating pins, and push them out. the emblems should fall right out after that.

the rear "m" emblem has a little double sided tape holding it on, but behind are the same friction plugs holding also. from the inside of the trunk again, push the locating pins out and the tape should start to let go. (it helps if you let the car sit in the sun for a while to heat the tape up )

the front "m" emblem was a little more tricky. i ended up removing the whole front grill assembly so that i could get to the back side to push the locating pins out. this one has double sided tape holding it on, and nothing else. it does use locating pins, though. by pushing the locating pins out from the back side, the tape will start to let go and you can pull the emblem off. again, it helps if the car is let to sit in the sun for a little while before to soften up the sticky tape.

to reinstall, i used some 3m car moulding tape on the "m" emblems, and just stuck the "protege" and "mazda" emblems back into the friction plugs.

the whole process sound more intimidating than it was. once the emblems are off, sand a little and paint with your favorite colors!

the other day, i repainted the "protege" emblem letters in black, but i don't have any pictures loaded up yet to show it.

Gunmetal emblems on my silver P5 - I can't wait to do this!

I just don't like how the 3 emblems are the only chrome on the whole car (other than the headlights, of course). Not a big fan of the chrome.

Pics to come for sure!

i originally wanted to do the emblems in black, but i couldn't find a good cheap match to the black mica mazda used. so i went with a darker charcoal. the front emblem almost looks like it SHOULD have been that color.
