Crutchfield full of crap??
Ok, I'm confused. I was looking on Crutchfield's website for stereos. According to them, the only ones that fit the P5 are certain Pioneer, Kenwood, and Panasonic models, and this is "with modifications". Problem is, I have looked up some of the models that people here have installed, and according to Crutchfield, these "do not fit". Now what is their deal? If people are putting them in the cars, then they obviously fit! Help!!!

I noticed the same thing. They list model A (an in-dash CD player) as fitting in the car and then model B (an in-dash CD player w/ MP3 capabilities) as not fitting.
But, when you look at them model A and B have the same dimensions. They have some very goofy way of determining what does and does not fit.
So, my veredict: they are full of crap.
now, if they only had the wiring harness....

Goto Wal-mart. I think I seen some wiring harnesses over there for our cars. They are for more than one car but they might do the trick. Anyone know for sure? I didn't spend much time looking at them but there are some at Wally world

Be weary about anything that Crutchfield tells you and god forbid dont buy anything from them. They are so over priced it rediculous. About the info they give you, it's undoubtably wrong. My deck (Kenwood eXcelon Z828) isn't even listed on their site if you just browse for it. You have to do a damn search for it, then randomly it shows up but of course it dosent say it fits the Protege5.
In conclusion, screw Crutchfield, just use them for their free mags :P

Ok, a friend of mine called up this guy Moe at Crutchfield. He's got the guy's extension! According to Moe, the "do not fits" will fit, but there is some rear support bracket thingy that needs to be taken out. Don't know what it is, but I guess it would be included in the directions. BTW, I was considering one of the JVC El Kameleons ("Does not fit"), so my friend called about it. Hope this helps. I will keep looking.

Head Unit Fit
I have installed a stereo in the P5.
I will state that any DIN size radio will fit in with no problem, unless the wire harness comes directly out of the center of the radio (which I have never seen).
Depth should not be a problem with our car, but Crutchfield is just looking at the over all size of the radio (Double DIN in our cars). P5.
They would have to sell you a pocket that's it.
