Yes, I made my own custom mesh grills for a total just under $3. I used two pieces of rain gutter guards from Home Depot, each costing $1.17.

However, you might be able to notice the small black ***** on the grill. Those are the zip ties I used to hold it on. I plan on buying clear zip ties later this week, which will not show at all. That will set me back another couple of bucks.

Did u put the new mesh grill on top of the old one of did you remove\cut the plastic grill?

 

It's right on top, an I used zip ties to hold them together. That way when I sell the car, I can bring it back to stock.

I know that in the picture you can barely notice the stock grill. But in person, at certain angles or in certain lights does it become obvious?

I'm thinking of making myself a grill too.

 

i just went out and bought the stuff, i aws just wondering, did you take off your bottom grilled to put the mesh in, and if so how did you get it out, i cant seem to figure out how to get mine out

 

did you get the metal or plastic gutter guard? If it is the metal what did you use to cut it? I did this on my old Cherokee a few years back and I used tin snips but it tended to warp the edges of the mesh too much. thanx in advance.

Grills look PHAT ! Cheap and looks to kill, dosen't get better than that.

 

Looks very clean! I like it a lot! Might just have to go down and try it on my car now if I get the time.

 

That looks really good, especially with both grills done the same, not like some other expensive kits that just change the top grill. Is there another way you could attach it thought, I was just wondeirng if over time the tie wraps are gonna have some discoloration and if the grill would start to work loose and scratch the paint around it. Just a little heads up.

 

Wow, thanks for the support guys. There sure has been a lot of ricer bashing around here, and all of the feedback has been great. To do the grills, I took them both off. I did a search found a forum talking about the subject in depth. There was a link to one person's web site with detailed info on taking off the top grill, and for the bottom grill, I got on the ground and spotted all the clips, using a screwdriver to disengage them.

THe grills are made of rustproofed metal.

The zip ties are black, but I intend to replace them with the clear ones

You can actually see lees of the stock grill in person. The flash on the camera shows the stock grill even more than it does in person

On the bottom grill, I did wrap around the stock, which could lead to paint being scraped. However, on the top grill I just traced the outline of hte grill, and put it right inside of the stock one, so there will be no scraping. I highly recomend you do this on the top and the bottom.

To cut the metal, I used heavy duty wire cutters that I found in an old tool box. They worked pretty well, but were kind of dull by the endof the project. I used a sharpe permanent marker to do the tracing.
