I didnt disconnect the battery when I installed my speakers. Usually you do that to avoid a short circuit somewhere. But as long as you dont have your car on there shouldnt be any power going through the speaker wires anyway. Now if you're removing the head unit or adding an amplifier, then definately disconnect the battery.

I don't think it's necessary if all you're going to do is install a set of speakers, but if you're installing something like an amp or a HU then it's a must.

you're not running any amount of power that would require such precautions, it's for good measure, just like putting your seat belt on in the rare occurance that you should hit something or get hit. it's not entirely necessary, and not to mention a pain in the *** to reprogram your stereo and clock.
peace

Why would you go through the trouble and disconnect the battery to install a new head unit? I just never heard of it that is all. I have done so with the amps and stiffening cap, but never heard of doing so with a head unit. I just splice the new headunit's wires and connect to a wire harness and plug it in. (I hope I don't sound like a smart ***, but just never heard of that).
