does anyone have a minidisc head unit?

I don't have the dealer mini-disc module for the stock stereo, but I've got some incredible Kenwood CD/MP3/MiniDisc players for sale. You can't get them in the US, and they absolutely kick ***.

Was wondering why are you looking for one?
Well, I don't see the point of getting an MD deck anymore. It used to be nice, but then with today's MP3s (not the car, the music file format), it's much faster to burn an audio CDR with MP3s (yep, converted back to CD audio) and stick it in your CD-deck. It takes about 5-6 min burning at 24x. If you record an MD... it take 74 minutes. Even with high speed dubbing, it's not going to be anywhere near 6 minutes.
With the price of a MD deck, I can get a pretty decent CD deck AND a 24x CD-RW
Of course, you can buy a MP3 deck, but that's way too much music for me.

I can think of two reasons for MD. First, the sound quality on MDs is noticeably better than MP3's at common bitrates (e.g. 128), especially for the high end.
The second reason, especially in the Protege with the dinky little center console, is the amount of space they take up.

my major reasons are:
1. cds are piling up - i get sick of music fast and end up burning a lot of cds.
2. cds - about 50-75 cents each (canadian) ... adds up.
3. MDs are smaller than CDs.
4. you can re-record over MDs (and they don't lose their quality)
5. time spent recording from mp3-->MD isn't a big deal for me ...
6. to be a little different - at a premium of couse
i don't want to add an amp or sub or tweeters or anything - just a nice head unit and some nice speakers - that's "all" i want to do.
thanks for the info though!
re: hihosilva - i was looking to spend a little less than the head units you pointed me to! sorry! but thanks!

50-75 cents for a CDR? damn! Now i understand...
Hehe, for me, I always stock up when they have free-after-rebate CDRs. So it's like USD $1.00 (after damn tax and the 34 cent stamp) for a spindle of 50 CDRs. I throw them away like toilet paper
How about CD-RWs? Some players do read CD-RWs so you can rewrite over and over again. I used to do this to save on CDRs, but then why bother re-writing when CDRs are free?
Ok, if a normal CD deck is not for you, I would still consider getting a MP3 deck over a MD deck. The only way I'm going to get a MD deck is if they are the netMD type. That means that what's recorded on the MD disc is actually MP3 files and the MD deck acts like a MP3 player. In other words, a MP3-MD player.

hmm, some good points to chew on! i checked out the "net-MD " thing you mentioned too - turns out that the only MP3 files you can transfer to the MD have to come from the OpenMG Jukebox software that comes with the recorder due to copyright protection.
i'll check out the CD-RW drives too, but i'm still leaning towards the MD head unit.
