Door Removal

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Mazda3s and someone backed into my front drivers door pretty bad. Insurance covered it and I am going to do the door swap myself. I picked up another black door and I am in the process of removing the dented door.

I have the panel off and my question is, how do you disconnect the wire harness from the door to the rest of the car? I didn't want to start tugging on the wires or poking around unless I have an idea how they disconnect.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!
-eric

The harness is through a plug on the hinged side of the door - pull the rubber boot to get access to it - just unplug it and pull the door off.
Re-aligning the new door will be the fun part, make sure you don't ding the paint while making adjustments.

Thanks, got it disconnected and the new door is on. It lined up fine, no problems. I kept the original hinges connected to the car and just put on the door.

Now my problem is switching the lock cylinder from the original door to the new door. Any idea how to do this? I have the original door apart, but cant seem to figure out how to do it. I'd like to be able to use the original key with the new door. I do have the keyless entry that works fine, but it would be nice to have a backup

use the old key as a hide-a-key & therefore a backup... sorry, i haven't had tine to look through the manual and see how to remove the lock assembly. may have to pull the door handle off to get into it.
