My wife really wants the rear view mirror that autodims, compas, outside temp.

Anyone have install tips/ what needs to be done and a decent source for one?

i would check with the dealer cause they come with nice illustration instructions.

i hear its a very easy install. i have it on my wrx and its a cool option to have. one of those 'must hvae' items...probably get one for my pro5 later on this year, perhaps.

Maxx, I did, and didn't find anything.

 

I installed the OEM rear view mirror, and I'd say the process was reasonably easy. As indicated, good instructions are included with the unit, which of course are specific to Mazda products-- In this case they include instructions for both the 626 and Protege.

You have to remove trim panels to route the wiring and get access to electrical relays, so it can be a bit time consuming. Based thereon I suppose one couldn't say this process is completely "Easy", but as said, it's not too bad.

A few minor things to note about this unit, if you go for it, is the display is shown in green, which pissed me off a bit because it doesn't match the amber color of my ES instrumentation. Also, I'd bet you'll find the temperature is typically displayed several degrees higher than the actual temp-- The sensor's location in relation to the radiator means, especially when you're not moving, that it will pick up heat from the engine and give you a bogus reading.

The auto dim function has always worked flawlessly, though-- It's pretty cool; I'd definitely recommend it!

 

One would not need auto-dimming if it wasn't for the stupid f-ing DOT-spec lights!

I wish I knew where my install guide was, I would scan it, as it is somewhat useful - plus I am almost sure the techs at my dealership did not follow it, which is another story.
