FINAL - Guage Swap?

O.K. This question has been asked before a million times, but everyone seems to have a different answer.......so I will ask it one last FINAL time. People that have done it before, help those of us out that want a tach in our SE/DX models. SO the question is: If I have a 1999 Mazda Protege SE/DX, can I change the instruement cluster with a 1999 LX or ES cluster as long as the milage is close to the same? Help!

I personally tried the swap, and of course it fits, everything but the tach worked...this leads me to believe no the swap wont work, assuming that getting a tach is what you are trying to acheive...

So why won't the tach work? Is it just because the SE/DX models aren't wired properly to take a tach? Is there anything you would be able to get from say a Mazda dealership that would make the tach work? I love my Pro, I just really, really wish there was a tach in the guage cluster. It would totally make the interior seem more complete.
