Help...no sound from my stock head unit...
Yesterday my stock headunit just stopped puting out any sound. Here is where it gets a little strange. I upgraded my speakers to Kenwood eXcelons all the way around. One of them in the rear door was defective. I took it out and sent it back and the stereo still worked with the fade turned to the front only. Now yesterday on my way home from work the sound just stopped. The CD counter is still going but no sound. Anyone know what the deal could be? When i got home last night i parked my car and went inside for a while. Then came out and started her up and everything seemed alright. This morning everything was fine for about 5 minutes then no sound again. I am changing out my headunit this weekend for a Kenwood eXcelon 659 but i was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was with my stock headunit. Could it be a fuse? Why would it work sometimes and not all the time? Why no sound and yet the cd player looks like everything is OK?
Please help. I need music on my commute!
Thanks,
~ Joe

I can't tell you what the problem with your headunit is but, I can tell you what I would do in your situation. I would put off your Kenwood installation until you can take your car to the dealer. If it's defective have them replace it under warranty. Then do the Kenwood. There's no point in having a broken original radio to put back in the car when you sell it down the road. This way you'd have a brand new one with no wear and tear on it. Just my .02.

Joe, I think your problem is that a speaker wire from the speaker that is missing is in contact with a metalic surface in the door. I had the exact problem you had when I changed my front speakers. A wire was exposed in the passenger door and the entire deck stopped putting out sound, but the CD was still spinning along. As soon as I tapped off the wire, we had tunes again. I ran for a day with only 3 speakers and all three were fine.
Make sure the wires are secure and not touching each other or the surface of the car and you should be fine.
I hope you used the speaker shields that were in the doors originally 'cause the rain that drips in make it right to the cones (in the front doors at least). I was and to see how much water dripped through the window seal...
let us know how it goes...

I haven't gotten it back yet. The cones was making a really loud buzzing/clicking noise...it was a Kenwood eXcelon 6.5" and shouldn't have been doing that. I should be getting it back in about a week or so!
Thanks for your help!
