If you have a bug shield, sound off; I have some questions!
How many of you out there have a bug shield/guard on the hood? Can you post pictures? Do you like it? Does it work? How much are they? Is it hard to install? Where can I get one? Better than a magnetic bra? Are they worth the expense?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have one.
I like it. It gets ALOT of bugs.
I got it from the dealer.
I installed it myself and it took me 10-15 minutes. It was super easy.
As for comparing with magnet bra... I wouldnt want to stick a magnet on my car, but thats just me.
If you dont mind the look, then get one. Very useful.

I've had mine for over 6 months now, and it works great. It really does deflect a lot of the bugs from the windshiled!
Sounds dumb but - before I had the bug shield, if opened my moonroof, and pulled the little pop-up wind deflector down with my hand, the roof would whistle. But since the shield, it won't do that anymore - just an example of the fact that the airflow over the car is DEFINITLEY affected by the bugshield.
Installation is very easy - took me about 20 minutes. Here's the result:
I really enjoy the look too. And it does a good job of protecting the leading edge of the hood from stones - covers just about the same area as the magnetic bra.
I got mine from this guy on eBay - here's one of his auctions - good seller, too: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1862282747
And the install is totally non-permanent - yo can remove it whenever you want - either because you just want to or have to clean under it, etc...

Hey stocker,
Here's our baby:
We had it installed at the dealer. I don't remember what it cost. What we didn't know is that it is warrantied for 20,000Km or 12 months. I was doing something under the hood once and when I dropped the hood (from like a foot and a half) the end cracked off. A four inch piece. I was not impressed.
Mazda replaced it no charge, so that was nice. It is listed as a bug guard not a rock guard and I guess if it had been a rock that had caused it, they may not have replaced it.
We have both the bug guard and the moonroof/sunroof dam as well. I think it looks better this way. If you are concerned about bug or rock damage do what some of the other folks have done. There is this stuff you can get it is clear adhesive material and you can do a part of your hood or the whole thing if you are so inclined. I'm not sure how it holds up to age. I hope it doesn't yellow or anything. On a black or dark blue car it wouldn't matter but it could discolour on a yellow or red car.

Jayrox,
Thanks! I have to hear about the klingon warbird maplights! What are they and where did you get them? I just order some vinyl klingon insigna stickers that I plan on placing on the rear tail lights. Any other cool star trek stuff on your ride?

Klingon Warbird lights
Hey Ironman,
Actually it wasn't our intention to do anything Star Trek but I heard somebody else refer to the red lights as warbird lights and it seemed appropriate.
They are just red bulbs in place of the clear ones. We went to Partsource and got some bulbs. Sorry I don't have the exact designation with me. I can send that if you like. I would imagine that the staff at the store you go to should be able to help. I believe these bulbs run a little hotter than the stock ones. Or it could be that they are warmer because we leave them on longer.
It was kind of a nerdy but fun thing to do. Cheap too. Getting the cover off the map lights is the hardest part. There is a couple slots at the front end of the cover closest to the windshield. I was able to use my fingernail to pry it off. I wouldn't recommend a screwdriver simply because you could scratch something or possibly crack the cover. It's made of that brittle clear plastic after all.
Good luck, live long and prosper!

Check out my WWW ..I have a couple of images on there where you can see the bug deflector.
I'm sure the bug deflector helps to keep things off your hood but it won't save you when a dump truck drives by you going 100km/h and spills small rocks on your hood
I've got to bring my car to Mazda on Tuesday to get someone to look at it. They said they will probably just charge be for a wax job then try to buff out my touchups that I tried doing myself and then will wax the car.
Hopefully it looks good as new.

Does anyone know the part number for this item? I would like to order one, but need the part number.
I bought a Maganetic bra about 1 year ago, and it worked great for about 5 mths. As soon as the weather started getting warm, it started to crack. I immediatly took the bra off, in fear it would scracth my hood. I also heard stories about the bra discoloring the part of the hood it covered.
Do there bug deflectors take rocks pretty well? Ive had a small dime size rock make a small gash on my hood where the deflector/bra would have been.
