JVC KD-SX980 Fit easily in p5
I finally got a Mp3 Deck for a decent price 149 at my local bay area fry's. Anyone know if this deck will fit easily into the p5 dash? Cructhfield says it won't fit. Whats the deal with that site. Seems only the expensive stuff fits. Does this deck fit easily or do I have to force it in. Does it sit flush in the dash? Anyone have pics? Is it worth it to just get a reciever that is an easy fit like the kenwoods? Thanks!

Hey guys I am confused why crutchfield would only list certain kenwood models as fitting. Is the KENWOOD KDC-MPV7019 really different than the KENWOOD KDC-MPV619? Why would one be bigger than another? Did you guys install your stereos without having to cut anything in the dash? Thanks!

Check the depth of the recevier, that may make the size difference. On my first gen (1993) supposedly you can only have 6 1/2" depth or so, but there is a metal bracket back there you can take out and then almost anything will fit.
Unless it's really huge you probably won't have a problem. But wait for daylight hours for somebody more qualified to answer

Some decks are gonna be a tight fit - mostly because of the wiring in back pressing against that metal bar. But almost any DIN deck should fit - I don't trust Crutchfield's numbers for ****, personally.
Taking out the bracket on a P5 or newer sedan would be a bit tough, I think. It is welded in place, if I remember correctly. Not fun to remove.
As for the differences between those Kenwoods - check the "detailed info" or "features and specs" section - there has to be SOME differences.

Personally I would NOT recommend removing that metal bar....its there for a reason....support...
simply remove your stock deck....and measure from the face to the bar....NOW you know how much room you have...and work from there.....

Good for you that you're doing your own install though...

Thanks guys, I actually have both decks. I bought both of em so I can decide which I like better. Those darn coupons on f@twallet make deals so tempting. I figure i needed the wiring kit and installation kit anyways. If i want to keep the JVC I can send back the kenwood. Anyone know which they prefer. Kenwood or Jvc?

I can only report on Kenwood, because I have never owned a JVC deck.
My Kenwood has worked perfectly from day one. I think I've heard it skip twice in over a year of use, and that was due to road conditions that would wreak havoc with almost any deck.
MP3 playback is great, "seek" time (the time it takes to load an MP3 disc, and the "lead" time between tracks) is reasonable.
Overall, I have no complaints about it whatsoever. My only issues are the "whistle and bell" type, and things that are hard to find in ANY brand lately it seems - TRUE dimmer adjustment (like, adjusts with the dash lights - remember those? ), not the greatest EQ (bass, middle, treble, and that's about it), etc. The features on my Kenwood are pretty much standard in the price range.
From a reliability standpoint, my Kenwood is excellent.
You have a rare opportunity to test-run two decks and decide which to keep. Take advantage of that!
