Kenwood DPX-301 CD headunit
Has anyone here seen/heard Kenwood's double din DPX-301? http://www.kenwoodusa.com/products/L...k3=173&pr=2378
It is the lowest model in their double din headunit line, but it has some impressive specs, and the **** and button lights may match the P5's interior lights nicely. It's HD radio compatible, has the aux in (you can get an optional cable that allows you to control the iPod but I'm just interested in the direct audio input) and for some reason, I'm really obsessed with keeping with a more stock-like appearance. Any thoughts on this? thanks in advance!

but WHY? why get a double din one? I mean, discarting the NEED to play your old tapes on your car, the only reason I see to get a double din, its getting a nav system... get the metra adapter and pick you single din stereo, fits really, you can't really see the differencenice, BUT you need to put some silicone glue between it and your dash... because mine vibrated and made some noises at high speeds (160 170 km/h) thats like 100mp/h so... hehehe you need to use some kind of damping in between ill post a pic of mine a little bit later... no batteries...

The main reason for double din would be to keep a more stock-like appearance, and the DPX-301 doesn't even play cassettes. The nav screens are way out of my price range. And a lot of the single din HU's are just plain ugly and too blingy. A couple years ago I had a Kenwood deck that played MP3 CDs, but I sold it to a friend and put the stocker back in. Wish I still had it because then I'd just have to get the aux input adapter. Life lesson learned. Anyway, this could be the excuse to go get new technology! I'm looking to stay below the $200 mark to make an improvement on my system that would include an aux input for the MP3 player. I could get the PIE interface for $89 shipped, but I hear it has some issues with matching the gain with the headunit? If I went that route, then I could have a few bucks to throw toward a minor speaker upgrade (eventually adding a modest amplifier). I'm not looking for an ***-kicking system, just something that is noticebly better than stock that lets me pump my iPod tunes directly (I listen to a lot of straight up jazz, NOT the 'smooth-jazz' crap) for long car hauls (i.e. central PA to gf in West Virginia).
