look what I did today
I removed the soft piece above the glove box (which I found out is the air duct to the passanger side vent) and painted it red with some vinyl paint I got at pep boys for $5. I did the armrests on the doors, too. Let me know what you guys think.

yeah, it's a tweeter, alright. I cut the hole and installed it there myself. looks factory, huh? anyways...removing the whole duct piece was a pain. You have to lift the glove box off, then unscrew the frame to the glove box (10 screws), and then remove like 6 screws behind the dash to remove that piece. Then there are 2 plastic clip pieces still holding it in. You'll need a stubby screwdriver (phillips #2), and I still couldn't get to one of the ones on the top toward the passanger door, so I ended up breaking it (but the thing is secured in there pretty well without it...I haven't noticed any air leaking out or anything) I think I'll do the rest of the vinyl on the door red, and all of the plastic on the door black. But then I'll still have that ugly gray fabric piece. I guess I could just go to the upholstery shop and have them fix that.

well, it was like a spray-paint dye that I got at pep-boys. It was only $5. I did both door armrests, that piece above the glove box, and the center armrest (between the two seats) with like 4 coats each, and still have like 1/4 of a can left. Didn't smell one bit. I removed all of the parts from the car and painted them outside. It was almost 90 degrees here today, so each coat was dry to the touch in less than 5 minutes. Put them back in like 30 mins later, and they were totally cured, no smell or anything. I'll probably smell a little tiny bit in the morn (from the window's being up all night). The only pain in the *** part was removing that soft smushy piece above the glove box. I don't think the paint would work at all on hard plastic, so I don't want to try it on the dash. I'll probably just go to the upholstery shop for that.

no, it's not hard at all. On the driver side, there is one screw under the armrest, and then you just pry it from the side where you removed the screw first (the other side is held in by a little tab). There are 2 screws on the passanger side- one in the same place as the driver side, and one up toward the top because that armrest sticks up higher than the driver side one. Then it just pulls off like the driver side one.

no, I didn't do the rear armrests...I just didn't think to. But I will now! I didn't apply any cleaning agents, first. I just washed them with dish soap in the sink with super hot water twice before painting them. Do it on a day with no wind, in an area where there are no dust particles or anything in the air. And make sure you let the water dry COMPLETELY before spraying any paint on them. I haven't put anything on them yet, but after a few more days of letting the paint set, I'll probably armor-all them just like before. Armor-all seems to be shining up the rest of the interior painting I did a long time ago just fine.

I did the same thing....
I did the same thing! I painted my doors and that vent cover. And you are right...There is no way to get the vent cover off without breaking the one screw, which isn't that bad because it still holds sturdy. I took my glove box out and my airbag out and I painted the handle on the glove box. It all turned out pretty good.
