MazdaSpeed sound system
I was reading the new Super Street mag. and found out that the MazdaSpeed come with 450watt speakers. Thats sweet, especially for it to come stock.
Can't wait. I'm trying to get my funds together to get it.
bread::butter as redrims::MazdaSpeed
If any one is willing to give donations, PM me or email me. Sorry, no CODs

alright. on the grassy nole, where we met last time as far as the stereo goes, IMO, NO stock system, no matter how good it seems, will compare to an aftermarket system of the same cost. hell, when i bought my pro, it was the only silver one they had. and it had the CD player AND tape player. they wouldn't take the tape player out, and the SOB cost $300 WTF? so i had them take it out of the price of the car

Would cut the price of the car down too!

figure the HU probably puts out 100 watts RMS.
Copied from carsound.com's review of the Kenwood's Z919:
"The old 45 watts x 4 pops up everywhere, but a little spec sheet digging reveals a full bandwidth power rating of 22 watts x 4 at less than 1 percent THD. Our measurements show about 17 watts x 4 at 1 kHz, so the rating still seems a shade optimistic."
So if the deck is rated at 180 watts that means the sub gets 270 so figure in the BS factor we get 102 watts for the sub and in total 170 watts at 1% distortion. Not too bad for a stock system but nothing to get excited about.

i bet its 450 max power..... there is a new thing on mazda's website about the mazdaspeed and it talks in some detail about the sound system. it has the sub and amp mounted in the rear deck. 8" sub i beleive. and it says it's getting 250 wich means the other speakers are getting 200 and unless that amp is a 5 channel there's no way those speakers are getting 50w a peice with the hu....... not RMS anyway.

The official specs are 250W amp for the sub, plus 50Wx4 for the other 6 speakers (obviously two of the speakers share channels, I don't have anything in front of me and I didn't actually check it out while we were there but I'm betting that there's 2 on each of the front channels and 1 on each of the rear), which gives the 450W rating. granted, it's quite likely it IS peak power - but even if it's significantly lower, I can tell you its more than sufficient.
The only reason I can see (hear?) for upgrading the speakers would be if A: you're doing sound competitions or B: you like to announce to everyone (including cops) of your arrival several blocks ahead of time.
TheMAN and I played with the stereo in one of the cars, I didn't much care for the stock EQ settings but with a bit of tweaking it gave a very well balanced sound, a proper amount of punch but without overpoweringly strong bass, crisp yet not shrill highs, and an equally balanced midrange. I'm quite impressed, especially as it's still a 'stock' soundsystem.
The controls are funky at first but after a few minutes I figured out their control scheme for changing things such as EQ and after that ALL the config stuff made sense, as they use the same method to do everything. (Hold down a # button to go into the config mode assigned to it, then use AM/FM to go prev/next menu options and seek < / > to change options)
But I can say, it has more than enough power to take a good chunk out of your hearing abilities without distortion. If you really think it's not loud enough for realistic use.. you need hearing aids.
[Whee, I'm a n00b. Can't set avatar, grr. I just reg'd obviously.. obviously I'm that mysterious other guy who went w/ TheMAN to the Street Heat seminar]
[edit: I suck at teh grammer]

um, reason #3 would be to have a bad@ss sounding system, capable of reproducing effectively all the sounds that were actually recorded. most stock systems will not do that.

umm just so u ppl know the Hu is 450 watts at peak power. Also it is tested at 14.6 volts which almost no car produces so that means it gives more power when they test it. and to get the ratings they test it in a computer w/ a lot less or almost no distortion than in the car. So u r really not getting the 450 watts they say and even if they said 450 watts RMS after puting it in the car you would end up having about 370 watts RMS. I know this because my uncle works for the car audio division of sony and ive seen them get tested. I say u ppl dont buy it and u all get alpine.
