mounting sirius antenna?
#2
I had mine mounted where it should be on the top near the hatch.
See pic below.
You will be sacrificing signal strength by putting it on your dash. I was a part time Sirius representative and it was strongly suggested that you mount it outside of the vehicle preferrably on the roof or a trunk lid. It needs to see sky otherwise you'll have some signal problems.

well, after having my other car broke into because i had a sirius antenna on the trunk lid, i'd like to keep it as low key as possible..........
the dash is pretty wide, and i've heard of peeps putting it inside the back parcel tray of other car's......
i wish there was a way to test signal strength, like sat. TV

Usually it is said that it needs to be on a metal surface, with roughly 360 degrees of clearance from objects, and 18" in all directions. The antenna uses the trunk lid or roof as a dish and the antenna itself is just the transponder. If you aren't bent on sirius, you could go XM and get the glass mount antenna and remove when you are not with your car, your call, and just a suggestion.

There doesn't have to be metal 2 metal contact, lets say you had a conversion van, and wanted to put satelite radio in, you would have to buy a window mount antenna, due to the roof being made out of fiberglass. There would not be a good signal strength. That is why you need to put the antenna on a metal surface such as the trunk lid or roof.

our signal cuts out every day i drive in one certain spot in front of our house, and is random in a few other spots around town too. you ever have that problem?
(we have 1 car w/ it in it already... trunk mounted on the camry, and i can guarantee why that's one of our radios got stolen shortly after it was installed grr...)

I only have that problem in dense urban areas downtown and when i drive under overpasses. Not any other time. It's great! No real problems with my Sirius in the car.
It's a different story with our home unit. We have regular cut-outs when we use our plug and play Kenwood unit in our home. The antenna for that system is pretty crappy and it's hard to get a good signal with it.
I'm sorry you have such a problem with theft. Luckily I haven't. *crossing fingers tightly* Hopefully they'll leave you alone!
I've been a Sirius subscriber since Feb 03. Very happy with it!!!
It's great when I travel into areas I like to refer to as radio pergatory.

LOL, yup, my family lives in KS and we're in TX. They live so far in BFE that it's actually quicker to drive all of the way than to fly, then drive!
Got it installed today. Other than them being dumb@sses and first installing the antenna in the wrong spot, which i promptly pointed out, and them hooking up the sub wrong, I'm happy. They actually used the smaller XM antenna instead of the sirius ant. and it works great!

Happy to hear it's all working out well for you!!!
It's also great to talk to another girl on here! Two Sirius listening, MP5 driving ladies.
I've got some subs and amps still in their boxes from when I purchased them 2 yrs ago. I dont know if I want that in my car or not.
