Mp3/GPS/DVD LCD carputer thingy
Ok I am making a odd attempt at making me a in car mp3/GPS/DVD carputer thingy. Anywho got it 3/4 of the way planned and everything laid out well. Changed my plans from using exisiting HU and mounting 7" LCD above vents and just below my radar to removing the HU which is not working out well and placing lcd in its spot as its perfect even saw a post about that on here with a nice looking implement of it.
Anywho my concern/confusion is the receiver itself I am thinking of getting a new HU and mounting it just behind the cupholders in that small cubby, only issue is that cubby is 1.5" high and if I shaved it somewhat I coudl sqeeze one in not sure on the astetics of it once its completed tho.
So finally onto my question to you guys, is there a way I could create a small receiver burried under the lcd screen to run the audio but to be controlled by the puter I mean in a sense I figure having a receiver that simply takes a rca input, amps it, runs off 12v and outputs to speak wire should be doable but dunno of a product as well as if anyone thinks this is a good or bad idea. Volume could easily be changed by the puter itself as well will loose ability to listen to normal radio unless i can control a receiver with fm tuner via the puter. For now I am testing with a laptop but plan to finalize with a ITX board but making sure everything else is in order and doable before I spend the extra on the new itx puter.
I have read so many posts form this board and gained a lot altho still ahve issue removing that darned orinal HU lol baout to jsut tear it out now that I ahve decided to repalce it with a new one.
Thanks for any help you can offer on the hidden receiver

4 channel amp!!
Comp > amp > speakers
Is that all you want? Then you can go out and buy a usb fm thinggy to get radio. The puter can take care of the rest.
What Im thinking about is taking an existing head unit and putting it where the ciglighter and ashtry are. just cut that crap out because I dont smoke that way it will fit and still look somewhat stock, while at the same time being easy to read.
