Wow, looks great! Quite different and classy looking.

Okay so I just ordered a new centre console piece with the new cup-holders which is in the 2002.5 P5s. I hate the one that cam ein my P5 as they are not deep enough. The new cup holders only comin in silver so I took my original piece to an auto paint supply shop. Hmm their books have all the Mazda exterior colours but no interior paint matches. So the bottom line is that the guy at the shop will find something to match the existing metallic grey for me from anothe company.

My question is, has anyone here found out what paint is a close match to that metallic grey? And yes, I did the search thing .

 

Personally, I think matching the stock color could be difficult - but why doesn't the new piece have the same color as the old? Did they change the color scheme to a real silver when they changed the design of the piece (instead of the bronze-ish silver)?

If I were you, I'd consider re-painting everything if the new piece is a different color. It's not much to do, and it's a guaranteed color match if you do all the parts - seeing as how you may have to paint one anyway, why not pick a color you really like and do it all? If you remove and mask all the parts yourself, the body shop that will paint the cupholder trim really shouldn't charge you anything more to give the other pieces a quick shot.

Or just pick up some SEM paint and hit it all yourself.

I still think the new piece will match though - I really don't think they changed the color. But I could be wrong....it's happened once or twice before J/K

Yup, the new piece comes standard in silver because I think the new trim package for the 2002.5 and 2003 P5s are that way. Go figure. The auto shop that is doing the paint matching is only doing just that. They match the paint and put it in a spray bomb for me so I can spray it. They don't do any spraying themselves as they normally supply body shops with their paint.

As for spraying other stuff in there I thought about it and while tempting, I think I will wait until I get some real wearing off of the paint. I expect the panel where the window/door controls will be losing paint over time. I'll think about it then.
