is this the stock keyless entry system that you got with the car? what year/model/trim level do you have?

On my 2002.5 Protegé, to reset my keyless entry system to accept the keyless entry transmitters I do the following;

1) Open drivers door and sit in drivers seat (do not close drivers door).

2) put key in ignition and turn it from "off" to "start" (without starting the car) three times, then remove key. then immediately, push in/out the drivers side door switch three times (the one that causes the dome light to go on and off when you open and close the driverside door). You should immediately hear ALL of the powerlock unlock. This will indicate that the car is ready to accept the new transmitter(s).

3) for each of the transmitter(s) that you have, one by one, hold the "Lock" button down on the transmitter. You'll hear the doors lock if the transmitter is accepted. Do this for all the transmitters.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I've only done this once and I'm at work right now.

good luck!

I'm not too familiar with Mazda's (being that I've had my Protegé5 for only a couple of weeks). But, try the fix above it will probably work.
