My sub.... :tear:

Well, I went to SoundsGreat to check out a problem with my subs cutting off at higher volumes and what they have told me is that one of my JL w7's has a coilover thats going bad ... And then they gave me worse news - the factory warranty has ran out 6 months ago... Now im stuck with decision whether to pay $315 to have it factory fixed or buy new one for $719. And I have no money to fix it right now. Does anyone know if I can just get a soldering iron and a coil and fix that crap myself or do i need to start saving up to have it fixed professionaly?

once its repaired it wont be of the same quality and will most likely have a higher probability of failing...

as for fixing it urself.... i dont know hehe.. but if the coils r busted i wouldn;t get my hopes up too much...

i would personally buy a new one.... (but i am a sound freak... and a perfectionist LOL... i neeed everything to be just perfect)

Your voice coil went bad, not your coilover. I'd say just run one of them until you can get the money to buy a new one. With one properly tuned W7 and a good amp, you'll be happy.

im looking for 2 12inch subs for my box... got it for free and i re carpeted it (literally) with some extra house carpeting, i did a pretty good job too.....

as for your voice coils, its better to buy new and get it a warrenty, that way you wont have a defective sub with a home made repair...

and $300 for a repair is a little steep for a speaker, buy ive never owned a speaker thats a little over $700

good luck
