need help with stock system...

Ok.. recently my two JL 12W0's took a crap. I popped one of the cones off one (ghetto glued it back on :P) and the other just sounds blown now. So.. i've decided to just ditch the subs. I've still got an aftermarket HU (Pioneer DEH-P330) and it makes the speakers that came with the car sound like ***. The OEM HU obviously made them sound good. What can I do with this HU to make them sound good again? If I don't use the HPF option, the speakers pop when the volume is barely up. If I have it on 80Hz, there's no bass at all, and messing with any settings just makes it sound retarded. What can I do? If nothing, i'll just put the OEM HU back in. let me know!

TIA!

Sounds like you need to replace those factory speakers. They only handle around 15 watts max and any bass you through at them will do them damage or annoy the hell out of you with the popping noise. With a decent set of speakers, 80Hz should be okay while anything below can be run to your subs. It all depends on your budget on how loud and clean you wanna go. If you are looking for inexpensive, yet good sounding speakers, I hear Infinity Reference are good when played with the power from a head unit. If you go to the Kappas, then you may look in to getting a separate amp to push them. Otherwise, you will have to live with the popping noise or real highs and real lows, and no midbass.
