Neons wired to a switch in-dash

I'd like to install 2 neon lights underneath my dashboard and wired to a switch that I can mount on my dash. Now i'm no electrician, but I can follow a schematic or some friendly advice. So I was wondering if anyone on here who has done this before or knows how would feel like giving me a little help? Thanks guys.

ok, so you want to 'illegal switch' run two neon bars, the BEST way to do it is run a wire to the positive wire to your battery with an inline fuse (not sure of amperage protection you should be using, though i would think keep it down to about 5 or 10 amps to be safe), then run a ground wire to a screw in your console or up under the dash, then just wire the neon's to the switch. best type to use, personally, is a surface mount you cut in on the side of your console so it's concealed and less likely to be seen.

i would do it this way, using a relay

- 12v+ fused power to relay pins 85 and 87
- chassis ground from switch to pin 86
- neon 12v + wire to pin 30

the switch can be set to flip a ground, one side goes to chassis ground, the other to pin 86

then the black neon wire(s) to chassis ground

you can paralell the neons, (i.e. black to black to chassis ground and red to red to relay pin 30) and use the singlerelay to switch the power.

if you also want to have them come on with the parking lights, add a second relay as such

- 12v + fused power to relay pin 87
- 12v+ from parking lights to pin 85
- chassis ground to pin 86
- connect pin 30 to pin 87a of switch relay above

The switch relay will bypass the parkinglights relay, so the neons will only get one power source at a time.

if you also want them to come on with the domelight, add a 3rd relay as such

- 12v+ fused power to pins 85 and 87
- door trigger wire to pin 86 (ground)
- connect pin 30 to pin 87a of the parkinglight relay above.

as above the parkinglights relay will bypass the domelight relay so the neons will only ever see just the single 12v source.

you can chain the power and grounds together from one relay to the other for a single sourced 12v+ fused connection and ground point.

I did mine kinda ghetto. (It doesnt look ghetto, its all hidden.) I just ran the wires from the neons to a switch in the left console thing, then from the swith to one of the empty slots in the fuse panel. The other wire from the neons is grounded under the door sills. Everything is hidden perfectly so it looks nice, but it is an easy way around any confusing stuff.

thanks! a month late, but i've been busy

BTW, i just noticed a small error in the diagram (all the text is fine) but on the middle relay, where it says "12+ Parkinglight flasher input" thats wrong, it should read as "12+ Parkinglight input" no flasher Sorry for the mix up.
