P5 Crutchfield Speaker recommendations on target?
Just got a red 02 P5 last night. Chose it over 2003 Tib. Tib did have 380 Watt Infinity with sub.
So, new stereo is must as stock unit is not great.
Starting with door speakers. Crutchfield recommends:
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...p?s=0&id=13311
LOCATION BEST FIT OTHERS
Front Door 6"x8" (Fit E-Z) 5-1/4" (Fit P)
5 1/4" Component (Fit P)
5-1/4" Midrange (Fit P)
Rear Door 6-1/2" (Fit P) 5-1/4" (Fit P)
6 1/2" Component (Fit P)
5 1/4" Component (Fit P)
5-1/4" Midrange (Fit P)
They have Pioneer, Kenwood, Polk, Infinity, JBL, Alpine for some of the above.
Is the info correct and usable for ordering new ones. Is install fairly EZ?
Any help appreciated.

I know that most folks that do stereo stuff here will tell ya that crutchfield is a bit pricey (and I agree)... but I like that they send you pretty much all you need for the install so that is where I got my stuff.
When it came to the 6.5" speakers for the back they sent me some plates that allowed me to use the Mazda stock screw holes for the speakers. The catch was that the openings in the plates were not large enough to fit the speakers that I purchased. I had to enlarge the hole a bit before I could get them to fit in there. It took me a very long time with a large file and a vise to get it to the right dimensions (I tried a Dremel grinding tool and that did very little).
When it finally worked I was able to put the speakers into the doors with no problem.

Crutchfield isn't pricey its reatil price. may comapnies ALpine is a good example set there selling price and dealers are not allowed to sell them for less. Obviously somethimes deals are made but its not the norm. MSRP is what Crutchfield sells for and its what Tweeter, circuit, best buy and other sell for.
I always like crutchfield for the do it yourselfer becuase they give you alot of stuff free like dash kits and wire harnesses.
Of the brands listed I like polk and infinity. Alpine, kenwood and the rest have never impressed me. Well not totaly true Steve Browns install of alpine is more than impressive.
With just about any install their will always be an issue or two to overcome but they are usualy cuased by preferance. Some people only want to use factory holes, as an installer I'll mention that we almost never do. If some one is conserned about rust we silicone the back of the screws fro them but we ust shoot screws into the door metal. Also we don't use harness adapter at all. we cut off the speaker harness or clip and use butt connectors if we need to extend the wires or we just crimp on terminals.

You can easily fit 6.5" speakers in the front doors if you buy or make an adapter plate for the stock hole.
Personally, I think the extended bass response from a set of 6.5" components or coaxials versus a comparable 5.25" set makes this a worthwhile upgrade.

Thanks all for the advice. I was leaning towards 6.5 components and hoping I could install them relatively easily.
I know Crutchfield is more bucks but for car stereo stuff the tech support and extras do seem very nice.

Remember Crutchfield is one of the only authorized phone/internet resellers even sounddomain is not so you have no factory warrenty from these dealers only their warrenty. Personaly I never buy anything without a factory warrenty.

Is there any Space??
Anyone know the spacing between the hole in metal and the door pannel (front one) ?
I have 7" speakers that I have to fit in a 5"x7" hole, I plan to build a wood spacer that will allow my 7" to fit without removing metal, so I need to know the spacing between the door panel and the metal where the speaker is located.
Thanks In Advance

There is a decent amount of space in there - the only issue is that there is a "ring" inside the door panel - if you look into the "grille" area of the door, you'll see the 5x7 oval where the speaker lines up with the grille - inside this oval is a plastic ring that extends all the way to the frame of the stock speaker, kinda like a short oval "tube". Once you get the door apart, you'll plainly see what I'm talking about.
I had to trim this off to fit my 6.5" components in the doors - I used a 1/2" MDF adapter plate I made, and this caused the speaker to hit this "ring" and the door wouldn't snap back together. I just zipped it off with a Dremel and that was that.
I would estimate that there is approximately 1" between the door panel and the metal of the door itself. To be safe, assume it's a bit less, as I never actually measured it.
