Thumbs down P5 doesn't have enough depth?

 I just got off the phone with Crutchfield today.. and the dude told me there aren't many HU's that fit because there isn't much depth. This sucks because I looked up the HU I wanted to get: Apline 7893 and it says it wont fit.. nor does the Sony M630 or the Blaupunkt San Jose.. Looks like my next choice would be Pioneer's DEH-P8400MP .. which is $350! OUCH

get what you want, you can always let the HU stick out a tad from the dash. I always order from crutchfield, but you might want to try www.thezeb.com they have killer prices and a 7 buck flat shipping rate. blue will tell you all about it

People tried to tell me that my 7987 would stick out and look like ****, but I got a good deal on the HU, so I had it put in anyway.
It looks great!!
I seem to remember crutchfield thinking that a P5 has 6x8s in the front...

most people refer to 5x7 and 6x8 interchangably which many are. But you are correct, the P5 has 5x7s.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Man, and I thought I could go to Crutchfield for advice. What *******. That guy must've really wanted some commission because he was trying to get me to buy a HU right there on the spot. One that is "sure to fit and comes with Crutchfield's installation kit."

It looks like I might be sticking with the Alpine.. heh or maybe even this Blaupunkt Pasadena I recently set my eyes on.

I wouldn't say all the techs. I still remeber the chuckle head that told me to hook the amps remote wire to the power antenna fuse and it would be fine. Unfortunitly he didn't take into account that my head unit powered down the factory antenna when you switch to CD.

Question

Hi... I got a 2001 Protege DX in which I want to install a Kenwood KDC-MP922. Called Crutchfield but the reps (called two times) told me this radio is too deep for my ride.

Is this true?

I know Crutchfield sells for a higher price, but they include everything I need for a successful instalation.

Thanks for any info

cristino

i am selling my Pioneer Premier DEH-P840MP, the only difference with the 840 and the 8400 has is that the 840 has a 2 year warranty versus a 1 year warranty and is normally $20 more...

The one i am selling is on Ebay @ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3013027530

it's a great deck and it is in awesome condition... i wouldn't be selling it but i really want to get the next model up...
