P5 speaker door REAR spacking...the HOT POOP!!

Okay...I have hear it ask many times and have seen the answers before....and after my install today now know that NONE of the answers before were 100% correct...so here is it.

The P5 front doors have in reality 2 5/8 inches from the face of the door TO the glass of the window when its down...that is actually touching the glass....so a 2 1/2 inch deep speaker is right on.......this is the part of the information that I have always heard and was correct...

NOW....for the REAR DOORS.....I have also been told that they too had about 2 1/2 inches of rear clearance.....BULL HOCKEY!! not true....in fact the rear doors have nearly 4 1/2 INCH's rear clearance!!!! and yes that is with the window DOWN! and here is a picture for you..... you can put ANY speaker you could find that will fit in the hole in those doors. there is also roughly a full inch of clearance between the stock grills in BOTH doors and the face of the speakers....so tweeter clearance with coaxil speakers is NOT a problem either.

with the window rolled down ALL the way....its BARELY even with the top of the hole for the speaker...but its recessed way bake in the door...and considering that speakers are basically cone shaped...it would NEVER be in the way for any speaker.

Noticed that you measured at the bottom of the hole. How about on the top side?

I guess even though you can't really "benefit" from all that space (unless you are putting your amp in there or something), it's certainly good to know there's no limitation on speaker depths

I showed the measurement at the bottom of the hole since its MORE restrictive on the bottom....due to the shape of the door, as the skin starts to bend back in at the bottom where the inner and outter door come back together.

i guess you didn't see blues post...

if you roll the window ALL the way down....and you are looking into the empty speaker hole .... you can barely see the bottom of the window near the top of the hole...but its a ways in there...it would not cause ANY interference regardless of what speakers you used.

Not to mention that with some metal shears can widen those holes and give you more space for speakers.

Sir nuke
are the speakers similar to Neon speakers where they sit on a spacer?

I will assume you are refering to the replacement speakers....and NO, there is no spacer under them....nor was there a spacer under the stockers either....the hole in the door was large enough to accomodate the 6 1/2's with no problem what so ever....the only thing I had to do was drill a few new holes in the speaker mounting flange as the TRI pattern in the stock speakers for the mounting screws was not duplicated in the replacement speakers.....there were lots of choices...but none of them were an exact match to line up with the mounting points.

when you made the new holes, did you seal them with anything or did you just put the screws in?

make new holes? I didn't make new holes in the door....or are you talking the MOUNTING holes....

well there wasn't anything behind the stock speakers to seal them to the door....so I didn't put anthing there either...just inserted the screws.
