Painting Brake Calipers

Has anyone besides Protege5online painted their calipers? Just wondering how hard it is to make sure that paint doesn't get anywhere other than where you want it? Also, if you see this Protege5online, do you have any more pictures other than what are on your website?

Painting my calipers

Well, I decided to paint my calipers. I read Protege5online's article on doing it and decided to take the plunge. I purchased some brake caliper paint from Pep Boys. It's made by Plastikote, so it should be of good quality. It's available in blue, yellow, red, silver, and black. I've already put three coats on, and am waiting for it to dry enough to remove all the paper that I masked with. I took several photos of the calipers while they were masked and drying. I'll post them along with others after I'm complete. I've only got time to do the front today, but I will be doing the rear also. If anyone has any questions, feel free to e-mail and I'll answer them if I can.

Be careful what you use to clean your brakes after you paint tham. Some of the commonly available sprays contain chemicals that will damage the paint on the calipers.

Do you mean when I clean my wheels? If so, I don't use anything other than car wash to clean my wheels. Those spray cleaners are way to acidic for my taste. As much as I wash my car, the wheels don't have much time to get dirty. Have you painted your calipers Eric F? If so, what kind of paint did you use? Thanks for the advice.

I did paint my calipers and drums. I used a high temp spray paint to get the gold color I wanted. I was referring to brake cleaner you can buy from any local auto parts store. If you do a lot of work on your own car, like I do, you might use the stuff to clean your rotors when you're done.

Ahhhh... makes sense now. Don't know what I was thinking!
I appreciate the advice. Have pictures of the whole process for anyone that wants to see them.

it's not that hard, ya can do it yaself for under $10.00 cdn.. and it'll take about 3 hours to do all four (plus drying time).
tremclad small can = $5.00 cdn.
cheap brushes (small tip & 1" thick) = $3.00 cdn.
i find this is the best way b/c ya have better control in small areas and ya dont over spray onto other stuff (even with masking). the paint stayed on pretty good, me buddies all used tremclad.

Does anyone know where i can get a diagram or pics on how to disassemble the calipers so I can paint them? I have never changed breaks before, but I am mechanically inclined.

ANY help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
