plate speakers are just speakers where the tweater and mid cones are seperate. What size plates are you putting in your Protege5?

right, usually made for 4x6 and 5x7 sizes they are essentially spearates mounted to a plate, usually a 1" tweeter and 3.5" or 4" mid. a host of good companies make them and they are indeed better sounding than it's full size oval counterpart, although you WILL have to fill in the mid-bass with 6.5's or the like and then move to a subwoofer system.

plate speakers

The ones i am looking at are 5 in woofer and a 3/4 in tweeter. They are clarions and I have clarion 61/2 already. I have no plans of putting any real bass in my car. I just want something that sounds good.
