Playstation 2 Bestbuy Scam!?!?
I bought a playstation last year for myself for Christmas. I bought the 2 year replacement plan too but I don't like the playstation that much any more so I wanna take it back and get an x-box. I payed $300 for the playstation now the x-box and playstations only cost $200 so I figure I can take my playstation back and get back the $300 I payed for the playstation and buy an x-box for $200 and a couple games But what my question is is with a replacement plan when I say there is something wrong with it are they gonna tell to go get another playstation 2 or are they gonna tell me to just get something for equal price like the x-box Has anyone done this? If you have any comments or answers to my question it is greatly appreciated!!eace:

I don't know where you are(US or Canada), but in Canada there is a 1 year warranty that the stores have to give out. If 'something' happens within that year you take it back and say that it isn't working right and they give you your money back or credit.
It has worked for me.
It has worked for me.

OMG !!!!!!!!
I tried this last week with my digital camera !
I brought a digital camera for $600 !
And have it for a year and i half. I got sick of it because i didnt use it as much any more and wanted to return it hoping to get my money back or store credits, so i could buy some killer amp and subs and some videogames. I called the BestBuy headquaters and asked them about this and they said since i had the 4 year warrently i could return it if it was *Broken* And replace it with another one. So i tried to be slick and ask them if i could get a cheap digi cam for like $99 lmao ! And get credits for my camera with i was about to break lmao.
So i called the local best buy and they told me if it was broken they would replace if for me and if i got one that was cheap i wouldnt get my money back for that !
I was like what !
So my scam failed You wont get your credits back. But if you do let me know because i will actually try then

I too worked at Best Buy. The service plans are the best things to abuse. I can't tell you how many people I saw with 200mhz PCs that were almost four years old getting brand new 1ghz machines because that was the lowest model and closest in features to the old one...haha!! I personally recommend it with anything with expensive batteries, cellphones, camcorders, etc...once the battery develops a memory, you just take it back and if there was enough time lapse, you'll even get the newer better model.
The one thing I can tell you for sure when it comes to abusing these plans is that anything is 'possible'...and the one thing to remember is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. You gotta have some *****. If you just go in there and accept what they give you, you are gonna get worked over. Bitch, gripe, complain, yell if you have too, but don't leave that counter till you get what you want. I can't believe the amount of crap our managers did to keep customers happy.

my .2 cents about replacement plans. most of the time you don't need them. computers, tv, stereo will work fine. i have found out that if it does not break within the first couple of months, it will not break for years and will work for a long time. you always have 1 month to take anything back for a full refund (excludes games, music, tapes, computers, radar detectors), you have 3 months where a store would fix it for you at the store or service center and then you always have a 1 year warrantee from the manufacturer. if your pc's HD freezes up down the road, you can always take it out, call the HD maker and they will replace it for free. I did that with my maxtor. HD warantee is years.

I'm sorry, but am I the only one around here who thinks it is fundamentally WRONG to scam someone, be it an individual or a large company?
If you buy a replacement plan for a product and a product fails, fine, use the plan to get it replaced. If they no longer carry that, then they replace it with a comparable product. No problem with that...... but to deliberately walk in to the store, and then lie and deceive for personal gain is WRONG!!!!!!
In addition to being unethical, every time someone goes out and abuses/scams a replacement plan such as Best Buy offers it raises the costs for EVERYONE, as someone has to pay for all the abuses, and that ultimately falls onto the customer, just as shoplifting and theft losses do. It adds up and costs us all a tremendous amount of money every day......
No, I don't work at Best Buy or any other store like that, I just apparently have a little higher ethical standard I live by than some others here on this board......

Look, if you got a problem/issue with Best Buy, take it up with them and their management until you get a satisfactory answer. If not, there are legal means you can pursue if you are so inclined. If a corporation/company/person takes advantage of you take appropriate legal action to resolve the issue.
Still, no matter how you look at it, lying/scamming/stealing is WRONG!

first of all there are only 3500 some odd people on this board. Your not gonna be able to stop any of the price increases by stopping 3000 people. Second, the problem with Best Buy is that they over charge anyway. Third, if you break or if it breaks why try to get something better. Or if it sux, why not try and get something better. This guy spent $600 for a digital camara, if he gets store credit then he wont be able to spend more than that. No cheating or stealing there. Cuz best buy will turn the camara in to the company they will give them money which will probably come out to what they bought it for anyway. So there for no one loses.

well not really once the camara company finds out its not broke they will just get a new box for it and turn around and sell it as new or maybe just sell to some store that buys used stuff or what ever and so on and so one. I think that the camara company will come out on top anyway cuz it probably only cost about 100-200 dollars to build the camara and if they sell it for 350 then they make 150 profit. BLAH. whatever. im tired. This tread sux anyway. j/k
