quick wiring question
i just installed new speakers today, the only problem was i didn't know which wire was positive and which one was negative, after installing one speaker opposite and having no bass when they were both playing i switched the wire around and it sounds fine, my question is, does anyone know which wire is the positive one, i was guessing it was the one with the stripe on it but i'm not sure

i figured that, but i don't know if i'm in phase with the front ones, i just wanted to know if someone remembered from when they installed their own speakers, plus one thing i found weird is on the stock speakers it didn't have any markings as to which one the positive was, pretty dumb

it doesn't really matter, as long as all the speakers are in phase, meaning if the wires are swapped, swap them on all the speakers, so when each woofer pushes out, they all push out. otherwise they will cancel each other out.

If the wires are reversed, the woofer doesn't push out, it pulls in. Why would you want ALL the woofers to pull, rather than push?
I cant remember the wires, but checking your stock speakers oughtta tell you what's what.
The only time it's useful to hook up the wires reversed (reverse polarity) is on tweeters that are too "bright" - it can take the edge off them and tone them down a bit. But for regular speakers - get 'em right.

I mean - why even label pos and neg then?

hmm, damn, didn't know there was a difference, i always jus twired the striped ones to the positive, and if they were both striped, i flipped a coin and took a swing at it, HA! i'm going to look up in a chiltons or something and see if they have the wiring diagram for the stock stereo... this might help you's out.. do the research like i haven't done and you wouldn't have to ask these stupid questions... like i am doing..

Okay guys.....here it is....regardless of the discussion you are currently having about polarity.......here is the answere to the question ask....
NOW Ibanez.....this is the pinout for the 2002, yours should be similar if the wires aren't the exact same color...at least the pin position will be the same....
there is one hickup in the whole thing though....we have found that SOME speaker wires change color from the time they leave the head unit and when they get to the speakers.....odd but true.
Pin #: Wire Color - Use
Pin 1: Green / Orange - Rear Right Speaker (-)
Pin 2: Green - Rear Right Speaker (+)
Pin 3: Brown - Rear Left Speaker (-)
Pin 4: Brown / White - Rear Left Speaker (+)
Pin 5: White - Front Right (-)
Pin 6: Red - Front Right (+)
Pin 7: Black / White - Front left (-)
Pin 8: Black / Brown - Front Left (+)
Pin 9: Black - Ground
Pin 10: Pink / Black - Switched power, Accessroy, Amp On/Off Lead(splice into this wire)
Pin 11: White / Blue - Dimmer, not typicaly used for an aftermarket radio
Pin 12: Green / Black - Illumination
Pin 13: Blue / Red - Contasnt Power aka Battery aka Memory, connect to yellow wire in aftermarket harness.

I just hooked up some speakers in my doors. I cut my factory harnesses and just wired straight into the new speakers. I didnt know what was positive and what is negative and I just guessed. All my speakers work, they put out sound, but the bass is worse than what it was when I had the factory speakers in. Is there a way to test with an multi-meter to check the polarity?
