Replacing Instrument Cluster

Is it possible to replace the instrument cluster from a 1999 Mazda Protege SE with one from an LX or ES model? Will other years (ie 2000, 2001) work in a 1999 Protege. I want a tachometer in the car, it looks to plain without one. Any help or previous experiences would be helpful. Thanks.
