what you MAY be seeing on line is cars from CANADA, which do NOT have the roof rack on them.....
however....if you search the forum you will find a how to that someone did with pictures and all, where they did exactly what you are wanting to do....as far as the weather stripping...what is required is for you to buy the parts that were supplied on the CANADIAN cars and install them on yours...there is a part number and you can buy it through your mazda dealer.

Odd...I thought that all US dealers will give you the rail roof inserts with the purchase of the P5?
Does your dealer not do that?

The dealer should provide the inserts but I think the question relates to removing the rack altogether including the side rails. The pictures and instructions posted earlier were very helpful but they neglected to mention a source for the fillers that would be needed to cover all the screw openings. It sounds like ordering from the dealer is the way to go if you want a totally flush look.
Leaving the side rails on and using the fillers is okay but leaves a fairly high profile, no rails at all looks way better. BTW, I removed my center supports the day I got the car and drove it that way for the last three weeks. This weekend I was bored and put them back on, man does she howl! I can't believe Car and Driver didn't ding Mazda for this in their road test comparison a couple of months ago. It's major loud.

Can anyone in Canada get the part # for the roof weather striping for me? I called the my Mazda dealer today and they said they could get them if I had the part #. If I can't get it they need a VIN # to prove that they are working on a non U.S. spec car! Any help would be great!!

Isn't it funny that the US guys/gals want to take the roof racks off and the Canadian guys/gals want to put them on. Go figure .
My local parts guy up here in Alberta, Canada said he gets requests for the US racks all the time. He also said he cannot order them as they do not exist in the Canadian inventory system. Interesting that the US guys can order them.
I think the problem is that the Madza ads on TV up here show a US model P5 and I know that because it has the streamlined roof racks.
I have the Canadian racks and I think it is much better as I can put them off and on as I need them, plus they fit the Yakima system, bonus.
