Cool, thanks. It's nice to speak with another Canadian to see what these mods ordered from the states "actually" cost.

If I get mine soon (hopefully) I'll take some pics and post them as well.

I personally don't like it, as I do hook a finger under the ****, and the increased thickness around the shaft is annoying.
my opinion is different from yours, i like the way the ring looks. however i wanted a bigger **** so i went with the magnum, and the ring won't work with the magnum.

The question still exists of will that ring work with a Protege? The picture is of a miata. We all know that our Pro's have that fat part on the shaft and it looks like the ring pushes the boot down a touch. Will the ring be able to fit between the boot and the **** on a protege shaft?

Anyone have the answer to that?

well, by the looks of the picture, the ring covers a lot of the 'shaft' part of the voodoo ****. therefore, it wouldn't really take up much extra real estate on the shifter shaft and i think it would fit fine.

Good Call, if the ring is loose on the shaft portion of the ****, and has room to spin and jiggle I can see that being very annoying...it's a shame that no body had one of these things and can tell us all about them.

gaspo:

if you go for the magnum ****, you won't need the ring, and the ring will not work with the bigger shaft of the magnum.

i also wish to rant just a little now: (please do not take offense)
you guys seem to be making a big deal out of changing your shift **** and it's compatability with your shift boot that a little ingunuity can quickly take care of. when i first bought my voodoo ****, i drove around with the stock shift boot not touched for about 2 weeks thinking of how i could alter the appearance to look a little cleaner. if you like the way the **** looks, you will not be disappointed with the feel at all. it is very mystical how that works, but it does.

now, the base of the stock **** is roughly 1.25 inches in diameter. (if my memory is still good) and the base of the voodoo **** is .75 on the classic size, and .875 on the magnum. there is your comparison. my voodoo **** only threaded down enough such that there was a 1/16 inch gap between the base of the **** and the top of the shift boot. if you can live with the diameter difference, stick a couple washers under the shift boot to raise it up a little. if you want a trim ring to add flare to the base of you classic sized ****, get it. if it rattles because there is a space between it and the shift ****, stick a washer under it like i said above. what i chose to do is to modify the stock boot to give a smoother look. eventually, it will be raplced with a boot that looks like the ones found in civic type-r's. (only because i like the way they look)

sorry for the long post. and i'll say it again: if you like the way the voodoo looks, get it. you will not be disappointed.

Nik,
No offense taken, and I am planning on getting a voodoo ****, no doubts about that. I just like to check all the avenues prior to doing anything to my car (hope you understand). I'm not too concerned with the gap, or the finishing either, a washer or two for $0.50 or whatever washers cost is much more economical, and practical than a "finishing ring" worth $16 (Cdn).

I am new to the car customization/modification world and outside of a new set of pedals I haven't done anything to my car. I just like to be sure that whatever I do will look at least as good as it did stock. I know the voodoo **** will look about 1 million times better than stock, however I know a few people with Civics, and Acuras and such that have put on an aftermarket shift *****, and have the problem of gaps, and unfinished boots etc...

Just making sure that my car won't look the way theirs does...crappy!

with about 15 minutes worth or tinkering, you can make your shift boot look like mine. (in the picture i posted earlier) if you have access to a sewing machine and someone with some sewing experience, you can have an even better looking boot. (i am having my mother sew a cool boot for my car)

yeah, and after spending so much on useless mods, i now seek my wifes judgement on any mods i want to do. (she if much smarter, after all )

Thanks for all the advice if I haven't said it before, I decided to go with the Magnum Pearl **** and just got the confirmation today that it shipped so I should be getting it by weeks end.

I think I will do what you did and cutomize my boot using the steps you said.....my only question in this thing (after of course reading post after post and deciding on the Voodoo ****) is how do u actually get your boot off to do that mod......

I'm not too sure, but if you remove you **** and measure the diameter of your shaft (I know dirty jokes galore) then I could check mine and see if they are the same...same size and they'll fit.

to get at the boot, you have to remove the panel that surrounds the shifter. it is only held in with friction clips, so it pops right out. then, once that is off, you can slide the boot off the plastic ring that hold it on. there are slits in the boot that prongs on the ring fit into that hold it down. (once you get in there, you will see it is super easy to figure out)

as for the compatability of the ***** with earlier gens: i understand that the short shifter kits will work with all gen pros, so i don't see why the ***** wouldn't either.

Cool

Cool thanks for the advice...when I get some free time and get my **** in I will have to take a look at reversing the boot like you do to give it more of a seamless look.
