Talking Found a Ski/Snowboard Rack for American P5

Has anyone been able to find a Ski/Snowboard rack that mounts on the Protege5 factory rack? Trying to find one. Preferably a lockable one.

Check this company out forr ski racks

I just saw these guys down at a ski show. The company is called rack attack. They said if you go to their website you can use the fit guide. The url is www. rackattack.com They were helpful, they have a shop around me so I am going to go in there before first snow.

Post back if you can find a price on the US roof racks. I've been thinking about getting one but my Mazda dealer told me it would be something like $2000. For that price I could take a cab to the hill all season.

Well for 275$ CAD you can still get a Thule rack from mazda dealers in canada. Not bad. Expect 100$ more for each bike rails and 200$ more for ski rails.

2000$ for that ugly stock US rack. ahahah no way.

Well i will be getting the THULE then.

When you get it try and post some pics. I am still looking for something that can get two snowboards and a set of skis on without looking hideous. I really don't want to take it off everyday.

Roof Rack On MP5

Hey all you MP5ers. I recently got my MP5 and am getting ready to prepare for the winter season. Im looking to get a snowboard rack for my MP5. I prefer the ones that can hold 4 snowboards but ill do with the 2 ones. Anyways, What companies make snowbaord roof racks for the MP5? also, how much do they run for? can i get some links?

I also heard that you need a bunch of different parts to install a roof rack. Like you need clamps and then a bar and then a rack or something, i dunno. Can someone explain how this would work in general and guide me somewhere like a website or something. Please help guys, ive been looking for weeks and cant find anything

Thanks

I haven't been able to find anything yet. I've been looking for ski and bike racks for my MP5. So far there is nothing out for the stock roof rack yet. I guess the car is just too new. I'm on Thule's mailing list and supposedly they will update me when something comes out. (www.thule.com) Thule sells a flat top carrier that carries both skiis and snowboards, I already have on from my previous car, I just need the feet to hook it onto the MP5's stock crossbars.

Hope this helps,
Matt

Feet for Factory Rack

Does anyone know if these feet from Thule will fit our factory rack? It almost looks like it does.

Or Maybe these??

Thule Racks

Spoke to THule today. They said the new universal adaptors for our cars will not be out in stores until January. I figure I will run down to REI and see if I can modify either the Yakima Mighty mounts or the Thule feet mounts to fill the factory rack.
When I called Yakima, they said they had no plans to make an adaptor for our factory rack.

But I think I like the Yakima powderhound best. I will have to look and see though

Thumbs up

Finally picked up a ski/snowboard carrier. Went to REI and got the YAKIMA BIG PowderHound(it seemed to be much better quality than the Thule and is much easier to put on and take off). I used the MightMounts 12V vertical clamps and they were a pretty close fit.

This is what the MightyMount 12V (Part # 3512) looks like...

Here is what the carrier looked like...

Here is the parts list:
1 Yakima Big Powderhound Ski Mount - 6 pair $99.99
1 Yakima MightyMounts 12V- Set of 4 $21
1 Yakima SKS Lock Cores - Package of 2 $20

Subtotal 140.00

For those of you who want a Thule Carrier, you may have to do a bit more searching. Looks like Mazda Japan adds it as an accessory(a least that is what a japanese guy I emailed said he got his).
